A Struggle

Qian Qian wandered out of the director's office aimlessly. She had no idea where to go and who to look for. The two people she trusted the most had betrayed her in the worst possible way. She wanted to go to Shawn and ask him why he did that. Her sister, she had no hope for. Qian Qian could only accept that the promises her sister had made about having changed were false. But Shawn! They loved each other and were going to be married soon. Why did he do this?

She tried to think of an explanation that would prove that she was misunderstanding him. But he was the only one who had the negatives of the photograph! She had promised him to retire after winning this award and then they would be able to focus on having a family. It was also the reason why that she had preferred taking the old fashioned camera instead of the latest digital ones. She had wanted it to match her concept of the old and the new. And now, they wanted her to submit the negatives which were the only things that could prove her innocence! The fact that only Shawn could have printed another copy from the negative did not escape her. And if he had sabotaged her, then he would have made plans to present proof for the other person also which meant that either the negatives had been destroyed or were in the hands of the person who had stolen her work.

After walking for a while, the phone in her pocket started to ring. She ignored the ringing but still it continued. Finally, seeing it was the nanny calling, she wondered if some thing was wrong with her little one and answered the call to hear, "Excuse me madam. Your fiance and sister are here. Your sister says that she wants to take the baby. The little one is sleeping, madam and I have noticed that the baby is not very comfortable with her. So I have asked them to wait for now but if it is going to take you time to reach home then I may have to hand over the child.."

"No!!" Inadvertently a scream tore from her mouth, scaring the nanny too. Finally getting a hold of herself, she thought carefully, Xue Mian would not just take the little one because she was the baby's legal guardian as per their father's will. But her and Shawn appearing together was quite suspicious. After thinking, she said," Nanny Wang, keep them there and tell them to wait for me. Tell them that you have not been able to contact me and that you cannot hand the child without my permission. Nanny Wang, come what may, don't let them take the child."

This time, nanny Wang understood that something was wrong. She agreed and slowly locked the baby's room, clutching the baby monitor to her chest.

Qian Qian looked up with determination in her eyes. No.. she would not be a typical cliched , helpless woman and be kicked to the ground by someone. The two people were not at home so this was the perfect time to look for clues on their own turf. First she would check Shawn's house. After all with her identity as his fiance, it should not be too difficult.

Qian Qian flagged a passing taxi and immediately gave the address. Once there, as she had expected the guard did not ask her any questions and let her go up the stairs. Even as she requested him to not inform Shawn as she wished to give him a surprise. Under normal circumstances, the guard actually pitied the woman because he knew that the owner of the apartment was cheating on her. The guard actually had a daughter of his own and wanted to help the lady see the real colors of her boyfriend. He was anyways retiring soon.. so he decided to let the girl have a chance to see the true colors of her fiance.

Unknown to the guard, his one good deed would be something that would change the trajectory of many lives.
