Stop Watch

Many would say that the power of time has no weakness. That it is untamed and ever-powerful. That the wielder of such power will have no limitations and shall rise to conquer the world. For nothing can stop such a human being, any uprising or rebellion will be vanquished within…time. Or shall I say within nonexistence? Armies that rise will not fall but vanish. Loud voices that speak out shall be silent without a sound A human with such capabilities would be peerless, with everything and anything in their grasp. That was the first thought that went through Rowen Westfall’s head when he first discovered his power. He thought that his life could be changed for the better, from poverty to luxury. But to his surprise, not everything can be as he wished it could be, for great power comes with its own greater drawbacks and limitations. —-- Author: no comment… Not-the-Author: (just read it and find out what the author meant ) —-- The novel will be filled with gore, so I caution those that don't enjoy action... and death. Chapters would be at least 1500 words other than the prologue

Prologue

The wind howled as it whipped through the snow covered trees around him as he looked for anything, any form of shelter before the storm behind him caught him in its grasp. He stumbled through the forest in desperation as the knee deep snow held him from moving any faster than he already was, as if the snow itself wanted him to join them in its colorless world of white.

But fate decided otherwise as he soon spotted a hole nested in a tree, even luckier, it was big enough for him too. He quickly climbed into the space and jammed his backpack into the gaping hole in front of him in an attempt to stop any cold air from coming through. Once comfortable he placed his hands on his nose and mouth and sighed, he sat in silence as the puff of breath quickly disappeared. After catching his breath he reached for his backpack and took out a few slices of turkey and began to eat. He assessed his predicament, the storm outside wasn't planned. Everything he had on him would only last him for the day, and the blizzard seemed as if it would stay far beyond that. For it wasn't a normal blizzard.

He rested his head against the bark of the tree behind him and closed his eyes, he didn't want to be here. "A mission is a mission, so no complaining" she said. 'Yea right, and I sure got the short end of the stick to land this one, this dumb job in a valley. If any of them had this mission they would have complained as much as I did'. All he wanted right now was two things to get back and to rest. He had been hiking nonstop for the past couple of hours and the cold wasn't helping. Sadly his moment of peace didn't last long, the sound of crackling ice reached his ears. He opened his eyes and watched in amazement as the bark around him turned to ice. Slowly creeping around him, turning his abode into a cage. He cursed his luck, he quickly brought up his legs and kicked his bag out into the cold air. He scrambled out while grabbing his bag and stumbled through the white abyss until finding another hollow space beside what appeared to be a boulder.

He squeezed forward barely realizing that it was a pathway to who knows where. He could barely fit so he resulted in shuffling with his back against the wall and bag at his side. Shadows danced amongst the darkness laughing with the sharp wind blowing past him, down into the dark tunnel ahead of him. He didn't know how long he was shuffling for but eventually the pathway widened enough to allow him to walk comfortably. Soon the echoes of his steps weren't the only sounds coming through the dark stuffy tunnel, the rasp of rapid wind and the loud swaying of tree branches led him back towards the surface. Another opening awaited him exposing the road below, past the road was a cliff with its view of large mountains and snow covered tops. He didn't dare peek outside unless he wanted the wind to hurl him down onto the ground ending his life there, so he waited.

Believe it or not, the road ahead was his destination, a road hidden and only used for those with power who were in need of fast and discreet getaways. 'It should be any minute now', he thought. Sighing in boredom he looked at his phone, he had about thirty minutes to finish this, leaving him about four hours to get back. "Guess luck decided to shine on me today", he chuckled. It was a gamble to follow the path, there was no guarantee that it was to lead him right where he wanted to be, but it paid off. 'Now if only they can get here faster so I don't get in trouble and die of boredom'. He waited for another fifteen minutes before beginning to reach for his phone again, this time he would call this mission a failure. Thankfully, bright yellow lights began to shine out in the distance. "Thank God!" He moaned, "any longer and I would have had to call this a bust". The light's came from seven black vehicles, six of whom consisted of armored escorts with the one in the middle a limo, his point of interest. 'That's two more than I've been told, well, not like that's going to make a difference' he shrugged.

As the caravan got closer he reached for his backpack and took out a mask, it had no design with its only purpose to hide his identity. As he placed it on his head he began to control his emotions, with his goal his only focus, going back, his only motivator. He waited until the escort was right below him before hurling himself out of his hiding place into the open. The wind, which had normally passed down the cliff side, began to rush towards him with a mind of its own and the snow began to clump together at the base of the cliff forming spikes with the intent to spear him at the end of his descent.

But all he did was stare, emotionless, at the feeble attempts of defense as he plummeted closer to his target. And just when he was about to be enveloped in ice and wind he whispered…
