Chapter 1

Otto Brundle was sitting outside a hospital room in anticipation. His dad sat next to him with nervousness. He was waiting for his mother to come out, he didn't understand what was going on; he was so young.

He knew that he was going to get a little sister soon and it was very nerve-wracking for him to meet a stranger, but at the same time, he was concerned for his mother being in the hospital instead of him this time. A few moments later, which felt like years for him, he was able to go see his mum with his father.

When he went into the room he saw his mum in the hospital bed with a pale but relieved complexion and her holding something tiny in her hands. With a smile, she called for him to come closer, so he edged towards her.

"This is your little sister, Otto. Isn't she adorable? My little Ella..." She said holding the baby up for her son to see. He looked at her with judging eyes, unsure of how to behave towards her. She was so tiny as if she would shatter into a million pieces at any moment. "Make sure you take care of her ok, you're a big brother now." His mother said with a serious tone with a hint of pride.

A few months had passed since Ella was brought back to the Brundle home. In those few months, she learned to sit up properly and crawl. After a few years, she was able to walk, not as well as Otto but she was getting by. She talked and always followed Otto around.

Otto still didn't accept her as his little sister. She was too small and helpless. She needed his parents for everything, whether it was to eat or go to the toilet. Otto couldn't really say anything though as he was also a little helpless in some ways which made him a little behind in class and society.

He visited the hospital frequently for his check-ups. He and his sister were only two years apart so she did learn a lot from him even when he tries to avoid her.

One day his mother wanted them out of the house for some fresh air and some exercise, while the dad was at work for a little bit. So they got their cousin to look after them who was about a year older than Otto.

"So guys, what do you want to do?" Callum, their cousin, asked them trying to get them to be on better terms with each other. Otto stayed quiet with a grumpy sigh.

"Park! I want to go to the park!" Ella exclaimed excitedly running up to Callum.

"The park? You ok with that Otto?" He looked over at the sulking Otto.

"Whatever..." He said grumpily.

"We don't need to go if you're not feeling up to it," Callum said concerned.

"I can at least go to the park! I'm not helpless, I can at least do that much without people worrying about me." He snapped a little. He didn't want to be seen as helpless by his family, he didn't want to be like Ella.

"Yay! The park!" Ella exclaimed grabbing Callum's hand and skipping off.

They arrived at the park and there were many kids playing and having fun with the apparatus, swings and slides. Ella immediately went to play with the other kids while Otto went to the swings to just watch. Callum sat next to him a little concerned.

"Are you sure you're ok?" He asked, Otto just glared at him in annoyance. "Right... Well, wanna have a swinging contest. Whoever swings the highest wins." He said in an attempt to get Otto in a better mood. Otto immediately became competitive.

"Bring it on. And whoever loses has to do what the other says." He said with a confident smile.

"Fine," Callum said with a smile. They began swinging when Ella came running towards them making them both stop. She ran straight for Otto with a bright smile and handed him a flower crown that she made near the flower bed.

Otto stared at her blankly but all the while his blood began to boil. "Wow, isn't that cute, she made you a flower crown," Callum said trying to lift their spirits. Otto reluctantly took it and stood up. He walked over to the little river that was nearby and dropped it in without saying a word. Callum looked at him in shock while Ella's face began to cloud over as tears began to roll down her cheeks. "Why did you do that?!" Callum exclaimed now comforting the crying Ella.

"It's her fault. I didn't ask her to step into my life and make everyone's life miserable." He said sharply, glaring at the girl clinging to Callum.

"You went too far, Otto! You shouldn't say that about your little sister. Your actions towards her are influencing the person she will become." Callum said trying to get Otto to understand the meaning of his actions.

Otto was taken aback but didn't know what to say seeing his best friend taking the side of the person he hated the most. With that, he took off on a sprint back to the house not looking back but feeling some sort of regret.

Hi guys,

So this story is the prequel which I wrote when I was younger.

It might be lacking and there might be some inconsistancies since I didn't really think about it after finishing the main story so apologies in advance.

But hopefully it will be a good read and you'll see the characters a little differently compared to in the main story.
