Chapter 1Chapter 1

The entire world shuddered to a stop.

Andy Howard lifted a hand to the side of his face and it was already tender, hot to the touch, the sound of the impact still echoing.

“Andy,” Nick said roughly, his eyes wide in shock. “You…You know I didn’t mean to do that, I never would have done that if I wasn’t so stressed out over this presentation, baby, you knowthat.”

Dad had always had excuses, too. Nick waited for Andy to say something, but there weren’t words.

“Come on,” Nick cajoled, “it was just an accident, right? I’m not really mad at you, okay?” He crossed the room and reached out, then pulled back when Andy flinched away. “Don’t be like that, I’ll make this up to you, all right? I’ll—” His phone started beeping urgently.

Nick cursed and dragged it out of his pocket to glance at the screen and silence the alarm. “I have to get back. This presentation, it’s important.” It was important to Nick, anyway. His promotion—his future in the firm—hinged on it.

Andy kept watching Nick, only half-listening, more aware of the way his face was stinging as blood rushed into the damaged tissue on his cheekbone and the side of his eye.

Nick had sworn. He had sworn, when he’d asked Andy to move in with him, that Andy’s days as his father’s victim were done. That no one would ever hit Andy again. And Nick…Nick had a temper, but he took it out on things—dishes and knicknacks and books and Andy’s laptop, once—but he’d never hurt Andy. Not until now.

“I know I’ve been working too much lately,” Nick said, “but it’s just…it’s so important to me that I can be able to take careof you, Andy. I need to be able to make you happy.” He paused in front of the gilt-framed mirror on the bedroom wall, straightening his tie and running his fingers through his blond hair to settle the strands into their usual careless perfection. He caught Andy looking at him in the reflection and turned, putting on his most winsome smile and sad blue eyes. “You…know that, right, Andy?”

“I know,” Andy said, because arguing with Nick was pointless. Even that little bit of talking made his face hurt more. “You should go. You don’t want to be late.”

“Yeah, I just…You’re gonna be okay, right, baby?” Nick scooped up his suit jacket from where he’d dropped it when he’d come in to have lunch and check in on Andy. “This is going to change our lives, Andy, you’ll see. I’ll come back right after, as soon as I’m done, and then I’ll make it up to you, okay? Anything you want, tonight, I promise.”

Andy nodded, and Nick flashed a brilliant grin—he’d always been one of the most gorgeous men Andy had ever met, especially when he smiled. He swooped in and ignored Andy’s flinch to plant a gentle kiss on his uninjured cheek, and then dashed out the door.

What I want, Andy thought, his usually too-quick thoughts running slow like syrup but crystal clear, is to never be hit again

It was several long minutes before he could even move, and then it was only to slump onto the edge of the bed, shivering and gasping for breath.

He wasn’t sure how long he sat like that, waiting for his heart to stop fluttering in his chest like a frightened bird, fighting for air like he was sucking it through a straw, his skin running alternately hot and cold.

God, he’d been so stupid. He’d thought Nick was the best thing that had ever happened to him, given him a foothold and the courage he’d needed to get out from under his father’s thumb. Why hadn’t he seen that he’d just been trading one bad situation for another? And now that Nick had hit him once—it would certainly happen again, if Andy forgave it, let it go. It wouldhappen again. And again. And again.

No. He couldn’t go through that again. He wouldn’tNever again. He’d spent years coddling Nick’s jealousy, letting Nick pull him further and further from his few friends, letting Nick take more and more control of his life.

And now, what could he do? The apartment was in Nick’s name. The bank accountwas in Nick’s name. Andy had to leave, but all he had was the cash in his wallet and whatever he could carry, and he hadn’t spoken to anyone who wasn’t a friend of Nick’s in…two years? Three?

Fuck

Andy scrubbed his hands over his face, hissing as he scraped over the swelling bruise, and gave himself just five more minutes to give in to the pain and the fear and the grief. Five minutes, and that was all, because he had to be long gone—out of the apartment, out of the city, out of thestate—before Nick came back.

To Byul (Omegaverse)

'When the heart is talking, the head has no choice but to shut up!' Chin-hwa and Kang-woo grew up together; they had never been separated before, and without knowing, both started growing feelings for each other. They kept this a secret, of course, but it looked like keeping it a secret was the very wrong decision to make because this stems forth a misunderstanding that brings about pain and suffering to both of them. It can all be fixed, though, with a simple confession. But who would make the confession when both were too worried about the other hating them for secretly bearing feelings for them? It couldn't be fixed. Then, a bitter and painful separation occurred that changed Chin-hwa's life. A separation that took away his shining star. His Byul. But when he thought he would never see his Byul shining again, Kang-woo returns out of nowhere with far more charms and brilliance than he had three years ago. The charms of a dominant Omega. But... Just coming back wasn't enough to heal Chin-hwa of the pain in his heart. He was tired. So, instead of trying to get back to how things used to be, he decides to create a new route in front of them, shun his feelings, and push Kang-woo toward one of his friends in hopes that he doesn't fall any deeper than he already was. But fate had other plans, of course. Their hearts and souls had been bound from the moment they were born, so no matter the obstacle they had to face, they would surely end up together. After all, they just can't live without each other.

Billionaire Mafia's Manny

The footsteps sounded closer, and closer, and closer, until he faintly heard Siri's voice welcoming someone into the house, but before he could open his eyes to see who it was, he felt a large hand gripping his neck, his legs were locked tightly between much larger ones, and, he felt the cold metal of a gun placed directly on his...gun. Zeno quickly opened his eyes from instincts, ready to fight off his attacker, but the moment he did so, he was met with mesmerizing dark grey orbs, staring dangerously at him. The face of his attacker was too close, he couldn't make out his features, but he knew they were sharp, even from a closed look. He didn't bother fighting, he didn't want to lose his junior member down there, and his Nana still expected grandchildren from him. He couldn't disappoint her. "Who. Are. You?" The voice of his attacker was so deep, dark, and commanding. Zeno was a fighter, but he felt a chill run down his spine from the sound of the voice. The hand around Zeno's neck tightened, but he endured it, he was a fighter. Judging by his attacker's looks and actions of confidence, this was his boss. ~~~ After losing his parents and being faced with an unbelievable medical bill, Zeno Evander finds himself working as a Manny for a mysterious Billionaire, but it doesn't last long; after almost being killed by the Mafia billionaire, Zeno swore never to return to that place again. He distrusted everyone and hated any form of human relationships, building a thick wall around himself. But, not until his son's manny came into the picture. Zeno irritated him in every way, he hated the mere sight of his bodyguard and would have chosen to kill him if not for the sake of his son. Sebastian always tried to push Zeno away by treating him in the lowest way possible. But when the contract was coming to an end, were his feelings still the same? Or did he suddenly realize that it wasn't only his son that needed Zeno? ~~~ "What are you waiting for? Leave!" Sebastian snarled bitterly. He would have to speak with Butler Nicole to find out why he brought back this stupid clown to his house. He had just returned from yet another trip, just to find this nuisance in his house again. He hated Zeno so much; he was classless and looked extremely dangerous to be near his son; who knew if he was sent as a snitch by an enemy? "I'm sorry, boss, but I can't," Zeno said and stood his ground. Leaving would mean he wanted his Nana to die; no, he'd rather stay here and take all punches that came his way; he was used to it. "What?!" Sebastian couldn't believe that such stupid people were still existing in the world. "I can't leave," Zeno repeated.
