Chapter 20

I go where Ben and the others are, I see them standing beside a makeshift grave. I then stand beside them and look at the grave.

We are all grieving over what happened. Augie was a good friend and a good brother to us; even though we know each other for a month we treat each other as family.

We stand there for a while and just silently mourn. Suddenly Ben started to talk.

Ben: He was my best friend since 1st grade. He was like a brother to me; I remember when we first join the scouts. We are happy at that time and when we get our first patch, we celebrate like there's no tomorrow.

I see Carter start crying and then I see Kendell find an American flag and stab it beside the grave of Augie. Ben looks at us and said.

Ben: Let's give Augie one final Scout Oath.

We all nod at what he said, Carter then gives me a piece of paper where the oath was written on it.

All: "This do I swear: To live courageously, to help others when I can, defend what I must, so help me God."

Ben: Scouts forever

Ben then put his hands in front and we all follow one by one.

Carter: Scouts forever

Kendell: Scouts forever

Denise: Scouts forever

Wichita" Scouts forever

Columbus: Scouts forever

Littler Rock: Scouts forever

Tallahassee: Scouts forever

Westlie: Scouts forever

After the pledge, we left one by one until there is only me.

Westlie: Thank you again, Augie, thank you for everything you teach me and for being my friend, we'll miss you.

I then walk where the others are and hit the road again. We can't stay here, especially that any moment the enemy will come back here.

We can't fight them because we don't have enough weapons to use against them, even though I want to avenge him badly but I can't. I need to plan before we fight them, and we need to know where they are or what camp they belong to.

We can't charge at the enemy without any information about them, it's suicide and dangerous. So, we need to lay low for now.

Little Rock seats beside me and she put her head on my shoulders. I look out the window and see the scenery outside.

After a minute of silence, Little Rock started to speak.

Little Rock: Are you okay?

I look at her and smiled

Westlie: Yeah.

I just answered briefly at her, it still hurts, but I know I can overcome this. I then look at her.

Westlie: Thank you for being there for me.

I smiled at her.

Little Rock: No problem, we are a team.

Westlie: Yeah, a team for now.

Little Rock: Why did you say that?

Westlie: Well, I know that we will separate our ways when we got to Birmingham. You guys still didn't tell us if you going to stay with us.

Little Rock: Yeah.

We stay silent for a minute.

Little Rock: Why not you join us? Let's go play at Pacific Playland.

Westlie: I want to go to Pacific Playland too, but I just can't leave the others.

Little Rock: We are gonna play there for a day and we can hit the road again.

Westlie: So, are you saying that your gonna stay with us?

Little Rock: Yeah.

She then smiled.

Westlie: What about your older sister? Did she say that she will stay?

Little Rock: Well, where ever I go she follows.

Westlie: That's good. But you should still talk to your sister, and tell to everybody. Especially Columbus, I think he will be super happy about it.

Columbus: I will be happy about what?

We were surprised at Columbus who suddenly pop up behind us. That scared the sh*t out of me.

Little Rock: You will be happy because my... hump...hmmm

I block the mouth of Little Rock with my hands to not let her speak another word.

Westlie: You will be happy because we think of another new rule that you can put in your notebook.

Columbus: Really? That's great I was thinking earlier about what new rule I need to add. Especially what happened earlier.

He smiled at us anticipating our answers.

Westlie: By the way why are you here? I thought that you are driving the Hummer.

Columbus: Well, Denise wants to drive it with the rest, I think they need some time alone.

We were sad for a bit, but Columbus quickly change the topic.

Columbus: So, about the rule did you make?

Westlie: Well, it's still undecided so we will inform you later. Okay?

Columbus was a little bit disappointed but smiled nonetheless and nods his head.

Columbus: Sure. I'll be at the back if you decided just to go to me, okay?

Westlie: Yup, we will.

When I see that Columbus walks away from us, I then let go of the hand that blocked the mouth of Little Rock. I look at my hand and it was moist. I then wipe it on my pants. As I was cleaning my hand, somebody started tapping my shoulders.

I then look at who it is and see Little Rock have an angry face staring at me like she wants to drill a hole in my body. I was scared of her; I was about to go where Columbus is but she got me on the arm and pull me to my seat.

Little Rock: Where are you going? WEST-LIE!

Westlie: Well, uhm…

I then quickly bow down to her and started apologizing.

Westlie: I'm sorry for what I did, it's just that I can't let Columbus know that I know he has a crush on your sister....

I then slowly realize what I said to her. F*ck! I messed up, I said it to Little Rock.

Westlie: uhm... Can you please forget what I say earlier? Uhm. Please and sorry.

She was a bit shocked at what I said but then nods her head understanding that any guy like Columbus will have a crush on her sister. Well, who are we fooling? Even me, if I was still in my past body I'll get Wichita before Columbus do.

Well, I'm a bit sorry for him, but what can I say, Wichita is one Bad ass girl and I like a badass girl. I'm not a beta, I'm an alpha but if you have a girlfriend like Wichita then that's another story. But if you do, what will you do?

We have deviated too much from what we were talking about earlier.

Little Rock then eyed me then she slowly smirked at me, like a husband who was caught cheating.

Westlie: 'f*ck! I'm doomed, I just wish that she wouldn't tell her sister'

She can tell that I'm nervous right now. As I was thinking of what to say to her so that she will not tell anybody, I hear her laugh.

Little Rock: HAHAHAHAHA

I was a bit angry at her because she is laughing at me and I know it was my fault for exposing Columbus's secret.

I look at her laughing and I started laughing too. We laugh for a couple of minutes.

After we are done laughing, she looks again at me menacingly.

Little Rock: Westlie, don't do that to me again, I promise you that I won't tell my sister.

I lift my arms surrendering to her.

Westlie: Okay, and I'm sorry about what I did to you before, and promise I won't do it again.

Little Rock: Pinky promise?

I then smiled at this girl; she can be cute sometimes.

Westlie: Yup, pinky promise. You know, you are cute sometimes.

I suddenly blurt it out and was embarrassed at what I said to her, I then look at her and I can see a shade of red on her face, I think she is embarrassed too. I chuckle at that and she just punches me in the shoulder.

Silent descends between us. Then we heard a voice beside us.

Tallahassee: Are you guys, okay? You guys seem to be having fun.

We were a bit surprised at him suddenly appearing beside us. I then answered him.

Westlie: Yeah, we are. By the way, where are we going now?

Tallahassee: That's good. Well, we are going to a stop a bit, I want to have some fun too.

Little Rock: So, where are we going?

Tallahassee: Well, that's a secret.

He then smiles at us then left. We now look at each other and anticipate what will happen later, we smiled at each other and started talking again.
