The Necklace- New Year Special

"Will you be going then?"

She shrugged, still typing on her computer, "Dunno, depends on who's coming."

"Dowoon, and Kyung-mi."

She hummed back.

"Is that a yes?"

No answer.

"Hye Su… my legs hurt from crouching like this, can you give me a definite answer?"

She gave me a cold look, "My house. 6pm. I'll hire a taxi for the day."

I finally got up, with sore legs and limped back to my seat with a triumphant grin.

"You're kidding…" Hye Su accepted the prettily wrapped box.

"Happy New Year!" I beamed.

For a moment, I saw delight in her eyes.

Is it even possible for psychopaths to feel that?

I heard a ding.

"We're here!"

We got out of the taxi and headed towards the bar.

"Oh my gosh, it's been so long!" Kyung-mi gleamed in happiness.

We took a seat on the same table.

We ordered food and talked.

…

I felt somewhat dizzy. Shouldn't have drunk so much…

"I think it's kind of late now. I'll head home." Hye Su got up.

I looked over at her. She hadn't taken even a sip of her drink.

"I'll take Jung Hwa with me." She held out her hand for me.

But I refused. "Let's stay for a bit more?"

She shook her head in denial.

Dowoon slammed the table. "So annoying." I could see his face turning red. "I never really liked you, Choi Hye Su. You're a spoiled brat looking for attention."

"Dowoon… What are you saying?! Please don't do this. You're too drunk. Stay quiet!" Kyung-mi tugged at his arm, trying to drag him away from the place.

He pushed her away and kept talking, "Remember when Ari accused you for spreading those filthy rumours? It was me." He sneered. "I spread those words, knowing that girl would obviously go crazy with anger."

It was almost unbelievable. We came here for a nice reunion party and this is what it was turning into.

"I wasn't expecting her to go to those lengths but… I'm glad she did."

Hye Su sighed, with her usual cold glare which seemed to be getting scarier by the minute.

I lost my temper. Or perhaps I was too drunk. I got up and punched Dowoon in his face. It must've really hurt as my knuckles were red too.

"Rim Jung Hwa, know your limits." Hye Su grabbed my arm and dragged me outside, muttering something under her breath.

I felt even more dizzy now and put my head on her shoulder for support.

She abruptly stopped for a while and I could hear a voice. It wasn't hers though. Through my blurry eyes I could make out the silhouette of someone. The voice stopped talking and I looked at Hye Su. Her eyes were wide open- as if in shock.

I woke up with a stab of pain in my head.

I was on my bed.

Memories of the previous day flashed through my mind.

Everything was messed up now.

I turned around to the bedside table- where I usually keep a bottle of water.

There was a pot with a small cactus. There was a sticky note attached to it.

"I did in fact get a gift for you. Happy new year."

I felt my face getting red and layed back in my bed smiling. In happiness, I almost forgot the ruckus that happened.

Hye Su P.O.V.

I opened the box and took out its content.

A necklace. I examined it for a while.

Wait a minute…

Few years back

"Why do you keep that weird necklace with you all the time?" I asked.

Jung Hwa looked down at the necklace grasped in his hand, "This necklace… it's for my soulmate."

I chuckled, "Soulmate? What kind of nonsense is that?"

He glared at me, "I believe there is a specific someone who's meant for you. It's fate."

"Keep dreaming then. Maybe you'll actually find your soulmate." I rolled my eyes and walked towards the classroom.

"What if I already have?"

I turned around with a scowl and almost tripped.

His face was inches away from mine.

I could feel myself reddening.

"Jerk." I muttered under my breath and walked away.

"That sly person." I chuckled and wore the necklace.
