New Job

I finally got a proper job after 6 months of looking. I couldn't help but smile, standing outside the building- which was still yet to be fully constructed. It was a small company which had just started so they were probably pretty desperate for workers.

I couldn't believe it- I was seated in a cubicle which belonged to no one but me. There was a laptop in front of me, which was also mine now. I had never felt so ecstatic.

I looked around the office floor, many other people also getting ready for new beginnings. Everyone had a smile on their faces- but then I saw someone…

In a gloomy corner, a girl sat, staring at her laptop screen. My high school classmate- Choi Hye Su.

She still looked beautiful as she did before.

Well, I did have a tiny crush on her back then, but that's over now.

I took a deep breath and walked over to her.

"Hello?"

…

Her shoulders slumped, "But manager, you already gave me work and-"

…

She sighed, "I'll sort the customer lists as soon as possible."

She turned off her phone and rubbed her eyes.

Maybe I should talk to her later.

I went back to my seat but couldn't help but look over at her every two minutes.

It was pretty late- around 10 PM.

I had to wait for my manager to give me my official ID card.

The whole office was empty- or so it seemed.

The manager's room opened and it was... Hye Su?

I instinctively hid. Couldn't let her see me so tired.

I enquired my manager, and then left quietly.

"Please, sir, please give me another chance!"

"I'm sorry Miss, please leave before I call the security."

Everyone just looked while the manager cried and made a scene.

"Miss Kim, you lost the complete Customer List! This isn't acceptable! What if someone comes to discover it?"

The manager put her hands on her face, "But sir, I assigned Choi Hye Su to put them in order and put them back!"

The boss looked at her, bewildered, "Is this all you can come up with? You assigned a junior who joined the company three days ago to sort the customer lists?!"

I wanted to say something, but my guts wouldn't let me. What if I get into trouble? I got a job after a lot of struggle, and I can lose it with just an objection.

I kept quiet in guilt, and let the manager be escorted out.

I glanced over at Hye Su, who had a smug smirk on her face.
