Chapter 1: Beginning

This is a small village deep in the mountains, with only a dozen households making a living through farming and hunting.

At this moment, the setting sun dyed the sky red, and the birds in the mountains chirped. Smoke rose from the village, and chickens crowed while dogs barked.

"Er Gouzi, stop sitting on the ridge and daydreaming. Come back for dinner."

"Woof woof woof~"

Excitedly wagging his tail, a large yellow dog named "Da Gouzi" circled around a three-year-old child.

The young child with a tender voice shouted, "I know!"

Then he muttered softly, "My name is Su Hao. I told them not to call me Er Gouzi."

He patted his bottom and stood up, walking back with the gait of an old man.

Da Gouzi happily followed along.

A woman in the village carried a baby on her back, busy inside and outside the house. After setting up dinner, she looked outside and immediately revealed a smile upon seeing Su Hao's figure.

The woman was Su Hao's mother, and the baby on her back was Su Hao's younger sister.

By this time, cries of killing, screams, and the wild laughter of men were already coming from outside, getting closer.

In her desperation, his mother moved the firewood aside, gently placed Su Hao and his sleeping sister on the ground, and covered them tightly with firewood.

Su Hao remained calm and silent.

"Er Gouzi, listen to your mother. Don't make a sound, don't move."

After quietly giving clear instructions, his mother picked up a kitchen knife and rushed outside.

However, just as she reached the doorway, she was immediately stopped.

Two ragged men with bare chests followed her inside.

Upon hearing this, Su Hao's mother knew what awaited her.

Without hesitation, his mother raised the kitchen knife and made a swift cut across her throat. Blood spurted out, and she slowly fell to the ground.

The two robbers realized they were too late to stop her.

When his mother fell to the ground, she happened to glance at the pile of firewood. Her two children must survive.

With hope in her eyes, her light faded away.

The two robbers paid no further attention to the dead mother. They rummaged for food and prepared to leave.
