Chapter 264

Li Zi Yun woke up and looked around. Wang Yu was nowhere to be found and she saw Meng Xuan Li who was supposedly her biological mother sitting by her side, looking at her. Meng Xuan Li's body tensed when she saw Li Zi Yun wake up. She had been sitting here from the moment Wang Yu brought Li Zi Yun here to the room. Her husband Zhao Yu Zheng was waiting downstairs patiently for Li Zi Yun to wake up. Wang Yu knew that Li Zi Yun wouldn't be at harm's end with Meng Xuan Li and that is why he left Li Zi Yun alone with her mother.

Li Zi Yun tried to sit but Meng Xuan Li stopped her, "It's okay. You can lie down. I can leave if you feel uncomfortable"

Li Zi Yun did not listen to her and she sat with her back against the head board looking at Meng Xuan Li. She could see why no one had found out that she was her daughter all these years. There was not much similarity between her and Meng Xuan Li. Unless Meng Xuan Li and Zhao Yu Zheng introduced Li Zi Yun as their daughter, no one would find out.

After thinking for some time Li Zi Yun asked Meng Xuan Li, "you said your children… I mean my brothers and sisters were killed… What about your father? You said he was the don. He couldn't protect you?"

Meng Xuan Li replied with a question, "Then is Wang Yu not powerful enough to protect you?"

Li Zi Yun understood what her mother was trying to say. Even though they were powerful enough to manage all the threats, still she faced so much tragedy… the bad people always found a way to hurt them.

When Li Zi Yun did not answer, with a sad smile Meng Xuan Li continued, "Well…. Let's just say my father… your grandfather… was more interested in woman than worrying about his kids"

Li Zi Yun just nodded her head. She knew that Meng Xuan Li did not have to lie to her about something like this.

Meng Xuan Li continued, "He said that out of the three of us the strongest would become the head and it was like a test for him to see who had the upper hand"

Li Zi Yun was not sure if her grandfather was dead or alive; she asked hesitantly, "Is he?"

Meng Xuan Li smiled, "He's still alive and well… enjoying his life at the arms of different woman every night or day who knows… in X country…"

Li Zi Yun just nodded her head, lost in thought. Till the day before, she was not even aware that her parents were alive and there was so much she didn't know about herself. They sat quietly for some time after a few moments Li Zi Yun spoke.

"Why hasn't he been caught?"

This question had been bothering Meng Xuan Li for quite some time, yet she answered, "The way mafia does business is… well… you can say different from the legal ones and trust me… even the army could not stop them if they want to. Why else do you think the Zhao family accepted me?"

They both fell silent once again.

And at last Li Zi Yun asked the question she had been waiting to ask, "Why the Li family?"

Meng Xuan Li was surprised, "What?"

Li Zi Yun continued as if she hadn't heard Meng Xuan Li speak, "Since you said everything you had to say… Let me tell me everything that happened in my life"

Meng Xuan Li thought that Li Zi Yun was going to share all the happy moments in her life but that was not what Li Zi Yun had in mind.

After a moments thought Li Zi Yun continued, "Well, tell me show you how the Li family treated me" saying so Li Zi Yun got down from bed and stood before Meng Xuan Li.

Li Zi Yun pulled the top over her head and turned around. The scars in her back were still visible. Wang Yu had suggested plastic surgery but since got pregnant soon after she hadn't removed her scars yet.

Li Zi Yun turned around to face Meng Xuan Li's face and said, "I can show you many more scars if you want."

Meng Xuan Li's eyes were filled with tears and anger. Never in a million yers did she expect something like this.

Meng Xuan Li slowly walked towards Li Zi Yun and with a trembling voice, which Li Zi Yun was not sure whether it was anger or sadness asked her, "Who did this?"

When Li Zi Yun did not answer, Meng Xuan Li moved closer and touched the scar, "Who did this to you?"

"It doesn't matter. All of them are dead"

"Why?"

Li Zi Yun did not speak for a long time and at last, she said, "Because I was not his daughter"

"He knew?"

Li Zi Yun said with a sigh, "he thought that mother… I mean (Meng Xuan Li nodded her head indicting that she understood)… yes he thought my mother had cheating on him"

"I'm sorry. We are sorry. I did not know. If I knew, I would not have left you there to suffer. I…"

Meng Xuan Li had no idea that Li Zi Yun was being physically abused at the Li family. Her brother had said that she was sad but she never knew that the Li family was the cause of all that. Li Zi Yun had scholarship in college but Meng Xuan Li had secretly increased the scholarship amount so that Li Zi Yun could spend money freely. Several times, she had thought about why Li Zi Yun never got a single penny from the Li family. Meng Xuan Li had come to only one conclusion maybe the stepmother was blocking the funds. But Meng Xuan Li always thought that Li Shu Chen treated Li Zi Yun well. Tears were flowing non stop. Guilt was killing her. She was the reason why her daughter had to face all this. If only she had been careful… Meng Xuan Li slumped down on the floor, lost for words while tears flowed down her cheeks.

Li Zi Yun knelt on the floor before her mother and took her hands in her own and said, "If I had known this before a year… I wouldn't have sympathized with you…I wouldn't have accepted what you are saying… but… after losing my children… I know… I understand why he did this… why he sent me away… I would have done the same… my children would at least be alive… they wouldn't be…"

Li Zi Yun hugged her mother. She couldn't bring herself to say it, she couldn't complete the sentence. The only one thing for which Li Zi Yun was grateful for was that though she lost two lives she was able to meet her parents.
