Eclipse and the Strucker family

"Fifty thousand dollars! You'll get accurate escort time, location, and route," Lorna quoted the price, emphasizing the importance and complexity of the task. "This job is quite troublesome and risky for us, but with your ability, it should be relatively easy. We don't need your help in rescuing people; we just need you to provide information."

"Get your money ready!"

No matter how small, a job is still a job, and Max was currently penniless in this new world. Moreover, he was still a newcomer trying to find his footing, so the offered price seemed fair to him.

"Thank you!" Max expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the offer, and Lorna proceeded to provide him with the address of Reid Strucker's house.

Max stood up and said, "Okay, I'll get you the information."

"Wait a moment," Lorna called out as Max was about to leave.

"What's up? Are you inviting me to dinner?" Max asked with a playful smile.

"No, I won't be going home until late tonight. I have another appointment. Would you mind waiting with me until they arrive?" Lorna requested.

Just as they were conversing, a man entered through the door.

"He's here!" Max turned and saw a Mexican man enter, glancing around.

Max got up and moved to sit next to Lorna as the man approached and took the seat Max had vacated moments earlier.

"Who is he?" the man asked quietly, looking at Max.

Lorna did not introduce Max's identity but whispered back, "Marcos, what do you think about it?"

"You know what I do. Are you sure you want me to join you?" Marcos asked, his brow furrowed.

"Absolutely!" Lorna affirmed.

"Marcos, you're called Eclipse, right? Your ability is remarkable. Why waste your talents on that kind of work when you could have a more significant impact? Join us and help Mutants!" Lorna tried to persuade him.

Marcos took a deep breath and finally agreed, "Alright, but I need a few days to handle something first."

"Of course!" Lorna replied with a smile.

After a brief conversation, Marcos stood up and left.

"His girlfriend is the daughter of the gang boss he works for. It can be a useful connection for us. At least if your base ever needs weapons or other supplies, there's a potential source," Max shared.

Lorna was surprised by Max's insight. "I'm starting to get curious about you. I asked Sonia, and she mentioned knowing your ability and name. When John and I first encountered you, you seemed well-informed about our situation. Now, with Marcos, it's the same. Is this also your ability? You claim to be a mercenary, but I had Jenifer search extensively, and we couldn't find any clues or information about you."

Max simply smiled and replied, "Don't worry about it!"

Max chuckled at Lorna's response. "Well, curiosity killed the cat, they say."

Lorna smiled but remained focused on their task at hand.

As night fell, Max approached Strucker's house. He entered the different space and walked in.

In the kitchen, a blonde middle-aged woman was busy cooking. In the living room, a slightly thin boy was engrossed in watching TV. A family portrait hung on the wall, showcasing the happiness of a family of four. Aside from them, there was a middle-aged man and a blond girl. The middle-aged man was Reed, and the young girl was his daughter.

The family appeared to be content and joyful.

"Unfortunately, I don't know how long this happiness can last," Max mused quietly.

Reed wasn't present, presumably still at work. There was no study on the first floor. Max proceeded upstairs.

The second floor had only three rooms: the master bedroom and two secondary

bedrooms. A cursory inspection revealed that there was no study. If Reed had any sensitive information, he wouldn't have kept it at home, given the high level of confidentiality involved. In one of the rooms, a blond girl, around 18 or 19 years old, sat at the table in a daze.

"Lauren," Max said, looking at the girl. "It seems your X gene should have already Awakened."

Lauren, Reed's daughter, was a Mutant with the ability to manipulate air molecules to create a force field. Although she had the Ability, it had remained hidden for some time. Only a few years ago did her brother, the young boy downstairs, also reveal his Awakening. Eventually, the entire family joined the Mutant underground organization.

The Strucker siblings, it seemed, were not ordinary by any means.
