Chapter 24: The annoying substitute

Its been two weeks since the new substitute arrived and those weeks have been like torture to me.

The eager to wake up as early as possible so as to meet up for Jer's class wasn't there anymore because wherever you find Jer, you find Miss Jones.

Its like she wasn't there for the job but for Jerry which was so annoying. Most females who have a crush on Jer hated Miss Jones.

And I myself I'm not ready to believe they are engaged because its obvious with her actions she's throwing herself on him.

"Or was it something normal since they're couples...?", Maya thought while selecting a cloth to wear.

Their exam was fast approaching and her birthday was also in the next four days and her mother had begun the preparations already.

Thinking of her birthday, Maya heard her phone ring under the stacks of clothes.

"Hey mom. Good morning", Maya said when she picked.

"Morning my princess. How are you doing?", Victoria asked, trying to sound as calm and fine as possible.

She had decided to manage her health the best way she could. The last thing she wanted was for her child who woulf have her exam get worried and not read.

"I'm just here mom. Tired, annoyed and everything", Maya said irritated pertaining to what was happening currently.

"And why is that?", Victoria asked, panicking already.

"Don't think too much about my health Maya. Just concentrate on your studies", Victoria said again.

"Alright mom. I won't", said Maya.

"The invitation cards are ready. Should I mail them down to you?", her mother asked.

"Yes please", she replied finally settling for a pink floral top and half length blue jean shorts.

"Alright dear. I need to go. I have an appointment", Victoria said as an excuse so Maya wouldn't her groan in pain.

"Alright mom. Remember I told you not to stress yourself but I appreciate all since you've come this far", Maya said in a chuckle.

"Anything for you sweetie. Your dad sends his regards also", Victoria said to hear a chuckle.

Of course her dad always did. He has two companies and had been so busy that he doesn't have the time to call her personally like he always did.

Things haven't really been going well with the company for sometime now and Maya just wished everything goes smoothly.

This had been one of the reasoms she didn't want to waste the little they had.

Another reason was because of Issy. Though she had been strangely living quietly like she doesn't exist now.

Maya had gossiped with Ann about her few weeks ago.

Finally remembering her dilemma, she got dressed for school immediately since the first thing she did was bath the moment she awoke.

Putting on her pink flats, Maya heard a knock. *Knock knock*.

"Ann...?", Maya called.

"Yes Ma, I'm waiting for you. Don't tell me you want to skip class today again just like you did yesterday. Would be waiting for you at the lounge", Ann said and went away.

Ann tried her best to cajole Maya to school the previous day but her friend wasn't moved.

That was the first time Maya missed class for no reason. The other times she did was when she was down with flu or just sick.

She worried for her friend because she barely eats for two weeks now. All that had made her friend thin and look pale.

Jerry had an hard time shooing Megan away the previous day. The woman kept on disturbing him for no reason.

She was any where he went like a pest. She claimed to love him but was easily moved by what she heard about him and here she was again.

"Does she take me for a joke?. Does sge thinks its that easy to just forgive and overlook such?", Jerry thought and scoofed, irritated.

"Hey baby. I'm waiting outside for you at the parking lot. My car broke down so I had to take a cab...", that was the text he just got from Megan.

"Why not take that same cab to school instead...?", he thought of replying that way but suddenly stopped.

He wanted to know what she was on to. He wanted to know how far she would go.

"What if she's serious and is here to stay. Would you with open arms accept her immediately after all she did?", the thought came to him and he shook his head.

"I'd decide when I get to that bridge", he concluded picking his car key.

I'mmediately Megan sited Jerry, she tried to compose herself and look as innocent as possible.

Throwing her whole body on him, she kissed him good morning but Jerry only gave her cold shoulders.

"Testimg my limit...?", Megan thought irritated but quickly putted on her sly innocent smile back on.

"Get in", Jerry said and she hopped in the front seat.

"I've been wanting to ask baby. Why did you deserve to be a professor?. I mean...", Megan said while looking her Jerry, trying to strike a conversation with him.

Jerry understand her so well. Even more than she thought but the woman beside him now was not to be trusted yet so he didn't bother to answer her truthfully.

He wanted the whole thing to unfold right before her eyes before he said anything.

"No reason in particular. I just wanted to make more money", he said and saw her roll her eyes even when she tried to hide it.

Knowing how smart and mischievous Megan is, he could bet all he has to the fact that she didn't believe him and he wasn't ready to give a damn about it.

Megan rolled her eyes but smiled back. Her cheeks was startimg to hurt because she had been putting a lot of smiles on recently.

Yes!... she had been putting a lot of fake smiles on which was so unlike her.

She didn't buy the crap Jerry told her because she was sure it was a lie. A big one at that. Knowing Jerry so well, he was on to something and it was one of her mission to unveil.

They got to school few minutes later and Jerry saw Maya and her friend parked.

He wasn't sure who owned the car between them but he had been taking note of her since he saw her at the diner and then she missed a step.

It had been the first time he called her name but he regretted the moment because he didn't know how she would feel hearing her name from a professor who didn't know the name of others.

He didn't even ask if she was okay that day. He just told her to watch her step after saving her and left.

Well, the feeling was mutual so he was sure she didn't pick an offense.

He parked the car and Megan came out. Maya looked back and saw the couple as they walked behind them.

Her eyes met his eyes and she quickly retracted them back to her direction.

She had tried so hard to forget the man for weeks now but he came back haunting her in dreams and making her yearn for pleasure from him.

Which was a result of her fantasies of him before going to bed.

She would at times wonder how his lips would taste or how nice it'd feel to always place he head on his broad shoulders and use them as her pillow every night.

Megan immediately clasped her hand on Jerry's hand as they walked away.

The following day, Maya's birthday party invitation card arrived so she gave some to the class representative so he could give it out to those who would love to attend.

The party was going to take place at the penthouse and her mother and Ann's family were arriving the following day including Sammie.

Maya took a deep breath before knocking the Professor's office door.

"Come in...", she heard the deep voice she has always admire say.

Walking in, she could see the surprise on the face of the man before her.

Jerry was so surprised to see her. He wondered what she was in his office for for but he had to immediately cut off his thoughts as he saw her lips part to speak.

"Professor Doyle. My birthday is coming up soon. I would be plus one in three days time and I've organized a birthday party so I thought to give you an invitation card. Just as a little token of thank you for saving me from falling the other day. I noticed I haven't said thank you so I decided to use this as a medium to", Maya said and looked at the man before her with hopeful eyes.

She had been contemplating whether to give him an invitation card or not. Jerry was about to talk just in time for Megan to barge in.

Megan looked at Maya and also shifted her gaze to Jerry before she asked.

"What brings you here?", Megan asked.
