Chapter One

Rozelle

"Okay, I'm heading out now. See you tomorrow Rose!" My Colleague Ashlyn says to me while waving a hand goodbye, slowly closing the door.

"Alright Ashlyn, see you on Tuesday. Take care," I say and let out a long sigh while stretching out on the couch.

Working for 16 long hours is. So. Damn. Tiring, I can say that. All this work makes my fingers go numb, more like my brain go numb.

I lay on the couch for a bit before I glance at the soft pink clock ticking quietly on the wall.

"Ugh . . . it's already 10 pm," I mumble, closing my eyes while feeling the urge to sleep almost take over me.

"Nope! Gotta stay awake,"

I jump up and stretch a bit, looking at myself in the mirror.

Wow, my skin is so pale right now, whatever.

I start to pack up my things, closing the blinds and turning off the neon lights outside of the shop on my way out. After locking the door, I make my way to my black avalon while typing in my phone's passcode to see that my bff Hana texted me. I open a group chat of my highschool bff's, Beatrice and Hana, to see what she texted.

"Omg guys! I just had an awesome idea!! >0<"

Well . . . . . this is going to be exciting. I think as I chuckle.

Here she comes with her 'awesome idea' again.

I mean . . . I can't blame her, when you get to meet her she's so full of energy, that when she has an idea . . . you're probably going to expect something "out of this world."

"What's your amazing idea?" I text back while  putting my keys in the ignition.

"So, I was thinking that we should hang out sometime soon! Sorta like a highschool reunion! But just like, bffs and stuff."

I try to think of something to say but all I do is furrow my eyebrows at the idea, I mean I would love to go out . . .  but I still have to work.

Luckly, Beatrice replied to Hanas' text while I get ready to back out of the empty parking lot. I put my phone in the little phone holder on my air conditioner while I read Bea's text.

"Omg Yas! But where do you plan for us to meet?"

"I'm glad you asked sis!" Hana replied.

I sigh and a chuckle escapes my mouth while I shake my head at Hana's excitement.

Me and Hana had met around freshman year of highschool. She bumped into me while I was trying to get to class. I still remember her face of embarrassment, kind of reminded me of a puppy.

I laughed at the thought of Hana trying to apologize over and over again while I tried to tell her that it was okay. I recall her having a slight australian accent, I wasn't sure where she was from, until an "all about me" presentation showed that she was from Korea but lived in Australia for a few years.

After I bumped into her, she started to gain my interest.

Curiosity kills the cat right?

I'm pretty sure the cat is me.

No one usually even talked to her, she was like the background character, so I decided to ask her if she wanted to hang out with me at the university cafe.

She hesitated at first but accepted the offer. She soon surprised me with her energy and excitement, telling me about how amazing it is in Korea, and telling me how much she missed her home.

People always thought that Hana was the timid and quiet type of person, but that was a mistake they made. Ever since then, we'd hang out almost every day.

As for Beatrice, she was outgoing but didn't hide it, she was also known as the 'Bully repellent'. When I first heard that name, I couldn't stop laughing.

Although, one day when I was late to my class, I found that Hana was bullied by a guy and Beatrice came to stand up for her. Then on we just hung out. 'Bully Repellent' It's a silly name to be honest, but it showed how truthful of a person she was.

She always stood up for victims of bullying, she decided one day that she would be a student counselor at a nearby middle school. I personally think that it was a good choice, she really is a good person, and shes pretty intelligent and wise.

I glance to look at Hana's message that pulls me out of my thoughts,  while focusing on the semi-empty road.

"I found an awesome cafe called Caffe Vita!!"

I know there isn't any cafe named "Caffe vita" in North Carolina.

"And where is this Caffe Vita?" I reply, not having the patience to search it up.

"Yea I never heard of that cafe, there isn't a caffe vita in Maine," Bea replies.

"Okay, you might get a little shocked, but it's in Seattle," Hana replies shortly after.

My face forms a frown and I furrow my eyebrows. Does she mean Seattle Washington?

"Wait, do you mean Seattle Washington?!" Bea texts,

"Yea . . . Seattle Washington lol," Hana replies, she seems unfazed by our reactions.

"Dude, that's like a 43 hour drive for me!" I text back.

Well, she wasn't wrong when she said we might get a little shocked.

". . . Hana girl, that's a 48 hour drive from where I live, and a flight would cost too much money, I ain't paying for a 5 hour flight girl,"

Seriously, I thought Hana knew that we were far away, I mean she lives in California so it's not a big deal for her, but for me and Bea, it pretty much is a big deal.

"Oh come on guys!! Pleaseee?! I've been waiting to hang out with the both of you since FOREVER!! And maybe we could work something out for the two of you!" Hana texts, adding several puppy dog eyes emojis . . .  Gosh . . . she is really good at convincing us.

"Okay fine, BUT! You're going to have to pay for the food Hana!" Bea and I text at the same time, earning a chuckle from me.

I almost forgot that There was a stoplight so I stepped on the brakes. I don't wanna pay 300$ for running a red light.

"Guys I gotta focus on driving rn. Ttyl, we'll discuss this matter later," I texted while sighing

 "Alright girls, Cya!"

"Kk byeee!," Bea and Hana text back.

I take a long sigh while turning a corner and watching a gray Brz Subaru on the left lane.

"Nice car . . ." I mumble while trying to distract myself from the decision of meeting up with my besties.

I honestly wish I could travel to Seattle, but my chances are slim. The job I have pays well due to how popular my designs are . .  . but I still have to pay rent, pay for food, and pay my colleagues. I consider my colleagues as great friends, they deal with all my fussing and work extremely hard to do a great job, they deserve each penny, each dollar I give them, and they even appreciate it so much.

I smile at the thought of my 5 great colleagues.

Right in the middle of my thoughts, I hear a faint engine from behind me. It didn't sound like a normal car . . . more like a racecar engine. I start to hear more of the roaring engine and then I see a speeding car merge right behind me.
