Part Twenty Four

"Mrs Henderson... What happened to you?" Allison sat on the side of the bed and put her purse on her thighs.

"I fainted."

"Why?" Allison asked worriedly.

Mrs Henderson replied, "Doctor said that it is because of excessive grief."

"Oh no... Why is it?"

"Is it because of Nathan?" Allison asked. She guessed it was because of Nathan as Nathan should be Mrs Henderson's emergency contact instead of her.

Mrs Henderson looked at Allison and looked away again. "Don't say his name. I don't have a son like that. I feel embarrassed for having a gay son."

'Seems like his mother knows it as well...' Allison thought to herself.

"I thought you guys would get back together." Mrs Henderson continued. "Did he tell you that he's gay?"

"Yes... I kew it long time ago."

"Oh my..." Mrs Henderson's eyes became more and more watery. "Why would he choose a boy over you... I-"

"It's fine. I've moved on already."

Right after, tears started to flow down Mrs Henderson's face. "All I want is a normal son... What did I do wrong to deserve all this?" Mrs Henderson sobbed. She covered her face with her both of her hands immediately.

"No... Don't cry..." Allison gave Mrs Henderson a tissue.

"I..." Mrs Henderson took the tissue and wiped her tears with it.

Allison could tell that Mrs Henderson was really upset about the fact that Nathan was in a relationship with a boy. To comfort her, Allison decided to give her a hug. Mrs Henderson hugged her back and buried her head in Allison's shoulder.

"Everything will be fine. Don't cry..." Allison whispered.

After a moment, Mrs Henderson pulled away and grabbed Allison's hands. "Thanks for being here with me. You are a good girl."

"I'll be here as long as you need me. But you should get some rest now." Allison smiled.

"You have something to do?" Mrs Henderson asked.

"Uhh... Yes actually. I have homework to do." Allison answered.

"Oh... Sorry for bothering you. I can be here myself."

"I'll visit you again as soon as I finish my work."

"Sure. See you."

Allison got up from the bed and walked out of the door.

Allison waved her goodbye and Mrs Henderson smiled.

Allison took out her phone immediately after she closed the door. She opened her contact name list and scrolled to the person with the name, Nathan H.

She called Nathan and not long after, Nathan picked up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Your mother is at the hospital right now."

"What? Why?"

"Because of excessive grief."

"Excessive grief? Why?"

"You should know why. You should know what you have done recently that could make your mother so sad that it makes her faint on the street."

Nathan did not respond.

"At the end of the day, she is your mother. You need to deal with it eventually."

After some time of silence, Nathan replied.

"So... Where is she now?"

"She is in the hospital closet to your home. In the third room on the left. I need to hang up now. This is all I can help."

Allison hung up the phone and left the hospital. She did not know if what she was doing right now was right or wrong. All she wanted to do was to help Nathan and his mother to mend fences.

Meanwhile, Nathan quickly got out of bed and went downstairs. He saw Joseph sitting on the couch watching YouTube. Joseph heard his footsteps so he turned to Nathan and asked, "You're awake?"

"I need to go out. My mom is now at hospital." Nathan answered while putting on his shoes.

"Oh no... I'm sorry to hear that."

"I got to go now. See you." Nathan said before he walked out of the door.

He rushed to the hospital and went to the third room on the left. From the glass window, he could see his mom lying down on her back. She looked depressed with those eyes looking down and pulled down lips.

Right when Nathan wanted to get into the room, he hesitated a bit. His hand was on the doorknob but he was scared to open the door. He did not know what to say and mostly, he did not know how to face his mother again.

After a while of struggling, Nathan eventually opened the door. He peeked through it and his mother noticed him. Instead of greeting him, she turned to lie on her left side.

Nathan slowly walked into the room and closed the door behind him.

He went up to his mother and sat on the chair in front of her. "Why are you here?"

"Allison told me that you are here." Nathan replied.

"What do you want?" his mom asked with annoyance.

"Mom..."

"Don't call me Mom. I don't have this kind of son."

"I'm sorry. I just... I'm sorry but I really really want to be with the one I love."

"You go do that. I can't control you anyway."

"Mom... Don't be like that..."

"Then, what do you want?"

Nathan took a deep breath before he started to speak. "I know it is hard for you but I want you to be happy again. I hate seeing you like this."

He continued, "I know you want a normal son. I'm afraid that I can't do that. But I still care about you and I don't want you to feel upset."

His mother finally realized that Nathan was her one and only son. Being gay would not change anything.

"Nathan. I'm sorry for the words that I've said to you before. I can't believe that you will still come to see me." his mother said after her realization.

"It's okay Mom." Nathan had a soft smile.

"I should probably reflect on what I've done. I'm really sorry."

After a while of chatting, his mother accepted Nathan's relationship even though she still did not want his son to be with a boy. However, she knew that she needed to learn to accept his son for being who he was, which was very important when it came to maintaining a good relationship.
