Incoming danger

"It actually not only increased my resistance but also my mana pool…" Sigma furrowed his eyebrows. "This is pretty insane."

Sigma already knew that his power had more than a little bit of potential… but he was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by it. The potential of that ability was starting to seem endless… he wondered why he had it. Maybe it was connected to the memories that he had lost… he also considered that his power was the reason that he had lost his memories. In any case, he shook his head since it wasn't time to worry about that, and Ed finished his job.

"You get lost in thought pretty often, don't you?" Sabrina asked.

"A busy mind is a healthy one," Sigma replied. "I have a lot of things to consider since I am pretty much learning every minute."

"That seems convenient, and a bit overwhelming," Sabrina said. "Still, I have the feeling that nothing can actually manage to overwhelm you."

That would be convenient for him, but Sigma thought that such a thing was only possible because he didn't have many memories, to begin with. So, he didn't know how to react to most situations aside from letting his instincts do their job.

"There are monsters at north, west, and east, we need to head North, but we should clean up the area just in case," Ed said. "They might notice that their allies are in danger, and then they will try to check other areas if we leave them alone."

The group faced another pack of Verdiris, and this time, their experience helped them fight and ambush the beasts without suffering any injuries. Still, on the third encounter, Sigma and Ed got hit once in their arms, but then Eclair frowned when his wound wasn't as deep as before… Resistance was doing its job, and the wound still hurt like a bitch, though.

"You are full of mysteries, huh," Sabrina said while frowning.

The others also were thinking along those lines, but she was the only one who voiced her thoughts. In any case, the group decided to take a break since it was almost noon, and Sabrina was starting to look pale.

Sigma thought that they would just cook the Verdiris in some sticks on a bonfire, but on his backpack, Ed actually took out a huge pan and some other things. They stopped to let Sabrina rest, but she ended up filling the pan with water and lighting the campfire.

"You sure can do a lot," Sigma suddenly said.

"Hehehe, are you surprised at how amazing I am?" Sabrina stuffed her chest pridefully. "It is pretty rare for a mage to be able to manipulate the four basic elements, you know."

"I see… doesn't that make it hard to make one of them your specialty?" Sigma thought while wondering how many skill points he would need for all those spells."

"You are right, but at least it gives us the chance always to have a decent weapon against all kinds of enemies," Sabrina nodded and made Sigma confirm that she wasn't delusional despite her talent. "The more you use them, the better you get, but in my case, it is hard to get better at all of them since I use them equally. For that kind of reason, Eclair only uses healing magic."

Sigma looked at Eclair, and then she looked away… he thought that she was a real pain in the ass. In any case, he also wondered if their skills and spells could improve at the same speed as his with his system.

Regardless, the lunch had been a soup of Verdiris that had been pretty tasty… Ed brought the condiments from home, and Sigma wondered for how long they would have the chance to eat well like that. After that, he went to meditate, and Sabrina and Eclair also did the same while Ed cleaned the dishes and kept guard of the surroundings.

The group rested for one hour, and Sigma used the mana he obtained to increase the power of his bow. With two level-ups, he added the effect of summoning ice arrows and the attack power by ten points. While he could kill the beasts with Power Shot after five seconds of charge, the best option was always to do that without that extra help.

Sigma confirmed that his arrows became strong enough for that on the next battle… the others wondered why the color of his arrowheads changed from brown to blue, but they didn't ask anything. They were just glad that Sigma killed half of the next group before they had the chance to do anything.

Things got easy after that, and that only confirmed the obvious, Sigma's power was practically unrivaled in terms of usefulness and potential. A few hours ago, he was bothered by the fact that he didn't have any gear to defend himself, but now that was the least of his worries.

The group hunted the enemies nonstop until mid-afternoon. Still, then they stopped when they noticed that the skies were getting crowded with the Verdiris…

"We found something similar when we were close to their base, but to see this now…" Ed furrowed his eyebrows.

"How far away are we from the core of their territory?" Sigma asked.

"... Twenty kilometers away," Ed replied.

That wasn't a good sign. While it was a good chance for Sigma to level up, it would be too time-consuming. His goal was to find Saria first. After all… getting stronger comes after that. When Sigma checked the map, he only saw a lot of dunes ahead… that rocky area was the only place that they could use. The rest of the region was basically a sand desert.
