Dead Kings Of Nothing

'In the gravest of times, at the end of human history, only the most ridiculous may survive.' A group of students from Huddersfield party so hard they miss the end of the world. They proceed to keep partying and fail their way through the post-apocalypse. This is a testament to the short, strange lives of these misfit anti-socialites and a higher education in how not to do it. Dead Kings Of Nothing is the dark, offbeat and eccentric story of a group of students who come to after a wild house party to find that the world around them is desolate and abandoned. The hapless bunch of ne’er-do-well students awaken hungover into a world where a disaster has stricken their home town of Huddersfield. All around are signs of a panicked mass exodus of the town and a looting of its buildings. The few people left have become rabid and feral with a strange kind of sickness that has turned them mindless and ghoulish in appearance. Perhaps some military strike or invasion occurred; the student friends can only guess because during this time they had such a wild house party they could barely remember it. Whatever happened, they missed it all and can only speculate at the devastation left behind. Now, with no adult supervision or guidance there is nothing left for the motley bunch of decadents except figure out where the next meal (and drink) comes from. Each member of the group has different ideas on how to proceed, few agree with each other, and collectively they don’t have the competence to carry out any plan due to their continual debauchery and smoking of a strange narcotic herb they cultivate in the garden shed. The students try something, fail, try something bigger, fail harder, then try something so spectacular that they fail so hard things could never be the same again. This, to them, is progress.

Stardom For Dummies

[ Now out for sale on Amazon. Click on the link in my bio to purchase ] +++ Winter Chu has everything figured out. Ever since he attended the concert of a popular boy band as a child, he has never wanted anything more than to become an idol himself. And with his exotic half European half Korean features gaining him a ticket to be a trainee in a popular entertainment agency, Winter is sure he is well on the road to becoming one. But Fate is a witch and after three years of struggling as a trainee, he realises this is as far as the road goes. When the line up for the company's next boy group drops, his name isn't anywhere near the list. Worse, his best friend's name— with whom Winter made the promise of 'conquering the stage together'— is there at the top. Bold and shiny. Just when things couldn't get any worse, Winter is forced to make a gambling decision. Thrown into a new, no-name company with handpicked strangers, it is a race against time as Winter buckles up for his much delayed debut. But life isn't a bed of roses and hand in hand with the cruel reality of the entertainment world, his past comes crashing down on him as his best friend —now a rookie super star— waltzes back into his muddled life screaming muted revenge. What happens when the second chance Winter sought out isn't as easy as he thought it would be? And what happens when even with a knife hanging on his neck, Winter is slowly falling in love with said ex best friend? This is a quirky coming of age story about two teenage boys trying to find themselves and each other while trying to chase after ambitions as big as the ocean.

The Temporary Detective

Author: Writer, singer and actor Joanne Sydney Lessner draws on her own experiences pursuing a performing career in New York City for her acclaimed Isobel Spice Mysteries. With her husband, composer/conductor Joshua Rosenblum, she has co-authored several musicals, including the cult hit Fermat’s Last Tango and Einstein’s Dreams, based on the celebrated novel by Alan Lightman, opening Off Broadway in November 2019. Her play Critical Mass received its Off Broadway premiere in October 2010. Joanne is also a regular contributor to Opera News and a graduate of Yale University. Phones, light typing…and murder. Think breaking into show business is hard? Try landing a temp job without office skills. That’s the challenge facing aspiring actress Isobel Spice when she arrives in New York City, fresh out of college and deficient in PowerPoint. After being rejected by seven temp agencies for her lack of experience, Isobel sweet-talks recruiter James Cooke into letting her cover a last-minute vacancy at a bank. New to his own job, and recently sober, James takes a chance on Isobel, despite his suspicion that she’s a trouble-magnet. His misgivings are borne out by lunchtime, when she stumbles across a dead secretary in a bathroom stall. With her fingerprints on the murder weapon, Isobel sets out to prove her innocence by investigating the crime herself. While learning to juggle phone lines and auditions, she discovers an untapped talent for detective work—a qualification few other office temps, let alone actresses, can claim.
