Chapter12-Capturing Modi, Examining the Cheat

Norton was a considerable distance from Beaconburg, about 150 kilometers away.

Elizabeth didn't use Alan's divine power blessing, Light Teleport, but instead summoned a Horse of Light and rode out of the city.

She was capable of using Light Teleport to return, but as a Beaconburg paladin entering the territories of other kingdoms, she preferred to ride a horse instead of teleporting in most cases, out of respect for the 12 kingdoms.

Previously, when capturing the protagonist Little Robert, as the region was close to Maidenheim in the western suburbs of the Stin Empire, Elizabeth chose to pursue on a Horse of Light instead of using teleportation again.

Of course, compared to riding a Horse of Light, using Light Teleport consumes more light energy from their body.

After recently receiving another blessing from the Almighty God Alan, her light energy was abundant and didn't need much conservation.

However, out of courtesy, Elizabeth still chose to ride out of the city.

"Hey, Miss Paladin, you are so beautiful," Modi, bound by the whip of light energy on the back of the Horse of Light, couldn't help but casually tease as he gazed at the splendid figure ahead.

"Do you have someone special in your life? Are all you paladins so devoted to the Almighty God, the God of Light, that you have no time for love?"

"Why don't you answer me?" he continued. "Did you hear what I just asked?"

"Hey, sister, why so aloof? How old are you, by the way? I am now a disciple of the Chief Astrologer of the Stin Empire!"

"According to my teacher Hans, if I'm not a demon, then I could potentially become a deity in the future, right? How come you're so cold to someone who might become a deity?"

Modi kept trying to strike up a conversation, undeterred.

As a transmigrator and a "protagonist" who had smoothly navigated his journey so far, Modi naturally assumed this was an opportunity, not a crisis.

He had long coveted Elizabeth, who rode ahead of him.

Imagining himself as a "protagonist" with a beautiful confidante and multiple wives, he thought it was all part of the package.

The idea of taming a cold beauty like Elizabeth seemed even more thrilling to him.

The fantasy of having such a stunning woman under him was exhilarating.

Lost in these thoughts, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself, considering the possibility that upon entering Beaconburg, he might be adopted by its lord or even worshipped as a deity.

This would grant him an independent force outside the 12 kingdoms and greatly elevate his power.

However, just as the Horse of Light left the royal city, Elizabeth suddenly spoke in a cold tone, "Your thoughts seem very impure. How dare you harbor such disrespectful desires towards a paladin?"

Her words, icy and sharp, left Modi stunned on the horse's back.

"What?!" he exclaimed.

The next moment, thorns sprouted from the light whip binding him, piercing into his body.

He felt intense pain and shock.

"What's going on?" Modi was utterly confused.

"Wait, what are you doing?!" he protested. "Aren't you the renowned paladins? Is this how you treat your guests?"

Elizabeth's expression remained as indifferent as before. "Guest, huh?" She let out a wry laugh, then began teleporting Modi out of the city.

Meanwhile, in the [protagonist chat group], a message popped up.

"Hey, what's going on? Does anyone know about the paladins of Beaconburg?"

"Aren't they supposed to be embodiments of light? Why did they tie me up right away and keep punishing me? Is this fair?!"

"Although, I must say, the female paladins of Beaconburg are really something... Ow!"

Modi posted.

"Also, aren't the astrologers of the Stin Empire a bit too cautious? How can they use [mind-reading] to deduce that I'm either a deity or a demon race?!"

"I just hope these paladins aren't too stubborn!"

"Damn! How is this possible? Wasn't I going to Beaconburg? Beaconburg... has an antagonist?!"

Modi exclaimed.

At that moment, he had been teleported to Beaconburg.

Looking around at the golden buildings, his initial excitement soon turned to despair.

His system had alerted him that there was an antagonist nearby.

Modi felt utterly devastated.

In his life in a small city of the Stin Empire, he had heard legends about deities.

To him, Beaconburg, independent of the 12 kingdoms and a stronghold of the Almighty God, should symbolize righteousness.

Such a place shouldn't harbor antagonists!

But the reality was quite the opposite.

Soon, watching the distance between himself and the antagonist shrink rapidly from five kilometers to two, then to a mere hundred meters, Modi's heart finally began to crumble.

The situation could only mean one thing: he was being approached by an antagonist.

It's over! All over!

Darkness enveloped Modi's heart.

Yet, he was unaware that he had been brought here under the orders of the antagonist, Alan.

Meanwhile, in the Hall of Light in Beaconburg, Alan pondered over the information about Modi, murmuring to himself.

"This 'Wordless Wonderscroll' cheat... truly peculiar. A good growth-oriented cheat, indeed. Its upper limit is still unclear."

Alan didn't plan to eliminate Modi just yet, even though he had already learned about Modi's cheat, the Wordless Wonderscroll, and its capabilities from Paladin Sara, who had been monitoring Modi.

He knew that Modi planned to use the magic potion recipes provided by the Wonderscroll to ascend to the ultra-rare Ascendant, [Magus of All Elements].

However, this might still not be the full extent of the book's powers.

Could it even provide a potion for ascension to deity?

Moreover, the magic potion recipes mentioned in the book were replicable in reality, meaning they could be used by others, provided the recipes were followed exactly.

Alan thought deeply.

Compared to the previous protagonist, Little Robert, this protagonist, Modi, had his own strengths and weaknesses, and his potential advantage in the later stages might even be greater.

After all, the previous protagonist Little Robert's necklace had the ability to absorb calamity power, but it was tainted by absorbing the abyssal demonic mist from him, posing risks, and the few demon world treasures it offered might have hidden traps.

Moreover, once Little Robert successfully merged with the negative personality in the necklace, the cheat's function would reach its endpoint, and thereafter, he would have to rely on himself.

Of course, with the necklace, Little Robert could perform feats like 'purification' and 'resurrection,' akin to a "Holy Child."

In comparison, Modi, relying on magic potions, could accomplish more diverse tasks.

However, he was unlucky to encounter Alan.

Facing such a rich and versatile cheat with significant growth potential, Alan was somewhat reluctant to kill Modi.

After all, the "cheat" was strictly bound to Modi as a person.

Although Alan could still obtain the cheat after Modi's death, controlling it would likely cost a significant number of points, and Alan did not yet know enough about whether there was a direct way to control it.

However, there seemed to be another way to completely strip the cheat of its ownership – to showcase his divine power.

By elevating his strength from the current lord-tier, Alan could then attempt to separate this power.

With this in mind, Alan immediately began to try.

Soon, his power soared straight to the original level of the Almighty God.

At this moment, with the convergence of nine divine powers, everything about Modi, including his consciousness and memories, was exposed under Alan's "wisdom" divine power.

Likewise, Alan saw the scenes of Modi manipulating his "cheat," the Wordless Wonderscroll.

Shortly after, the Wordless Wonderscroll flew out of Modi's hands and into Alan's.

Alan reached out and opened the book.

Its cover, made of ordinary cowhide, was unassuming.
