It was the day of the competition. I had to rush everything and used magic to quite a bit to finish my project, I had decided to that depending on how the rest of the projects were I might reveal a remote control for my car instead of just having a system where it changed would stop right before a collision.
It worked most of the time but there were still some issues I would have fixed if I had more time.
I had held back my remote control because it no one had made it yet. I had the basic idea of how to make it from my home world so I made one for the car but if I showed it right off the bat I might be pushed into the top 3 category or even first which I was slightly hesitant about since I wanted to go to Harvard but I didn't want there to be too much spotlight on me.
I then did some scouting to see if I had to reveal all my cards or not, I went ahead and it seemed that I had a good chance of getting in the top 10 fairly easily.
Soon the guests arrived and started to look at what everyone had made, at this point I was forced to take a picture of my project with me in it which I really didn't appreciate. I don't know why but I've never liked cameras or taking pictures.
Some time later they soon started a welcoming speech for everyone and that's when the huge crowd started to come.
"Welcome to the 27th Harvard Youth Expo..." the speech went on for a while but then in the end came a twist, "This time we have decided on an extra prize for the top 3 winners, this wasn't disclosed earlier due to some technical difficult, but now all that has been sorted, so for the top 3 winners we have decided that they'll get to chance to work with a real progressional of the career path they want to choose..." and then they started to give names of acclaimed professional of the different career paths, for physics they had a some grumpy old dude, but for engineering there was something I couldn't afford to miss "... and as for engineering we'll have the famous Howard Stark to teach you."
I immediately had to change my presentation for the judges, I realized as soon as I heard the name Stark. I slipped out telling my parents I was going to the toilet where I immediately opened a portal to home and took all the diagrams and extra paragraphs on my wireless remote I had written just to be on the safe side.
Meeting with Howard would definitely help me, he would not only provide me valuable experience but also connection to the military. This would greatly accelerate my plans.
'Guess we'll be meeting sooner than expected.' I thought as I left my house and closed the portal.
