C19 Test

Beauxbatons Academy | 2nd September 1985 | 6 AM

That day was the only day every student woke up by 6 in the morning. That day was the only day that every professor recorded perfect attendance. That day was the only day where all the attention was only on 2 groups - The first and thirteenth years. That day was the day older students started checking out new students for multitude of reasons - ranging from prospective candidates to looking for a successor. That day was the day when the thirteenth years would start a battle for power over the school. That day was..... the First Day of School.

Charlus and his room mates woke up quite early in the morning and got ready by 6 AM. Charlus and Henri were unaware about the significance of their first day.

Beauxbatons had a very interesting system that no one outside knew about- the senior-most students didn't have any classes on the 'first day'. They were given permission to observe students to pick out students they could groom to become successors of their 'clubs'.

Normally, this was just a formality, as mostly people picked those of closest familial relation so as to not let the power over that club go out of the family. This greediness stopped the progress of many clubs. Other clubs simply picked students of great heritage to appeal to pure-bloods and gain more funding.

Magic Theory Classroom | 9 AM

All the first years were right on time for their first class at Beauxbatons. The classroom was arranged in such a way that it resembled a college classroom. There was the podium, and the chairs circled around it, but the structure was only that of a semi-circle. Charlus sat in the second row, and a little to the right of the podium. He was next to Henri.

Since he didn't go with Lucas and Lucifer, nor with Fleur, he wasn't seated near them. Before he could look for them, a professor arrived.

The professor was tall and lean. He was ruggedly handsome and didn't look a day over 20. His black hair was a little messy, and his robes were brown in colour. He introduced himself to the class.

"Good morning class. I am Louis Papillon. I will be teaching every one here Magic theory for the next 3 years. Some of you might be groomed to hate people like me, and I am fine with that. I simply ask you not to reject the magnificent concept of magic due to this. I will now conduct a simple test that will be not count towards your final grade. This test is the most important test you will be taking at Beauxbatons. Rest assured, I will now swear a magical oath to not reveal the results of the test of everyone present to any living being in any way."

Professor Louis lifted his wand and swore, "I, Louis Papillion, swear on my magic, not to disclose the results and answers of the test of the first years batch 1985 to any living being in any way possible. Mote it be!"

He casted a charm.

"Lumos."

The end of his wand lit up brightly. He then looked at everyone and said, "This test will require the administration of modified truth serum. This truth serum will only suggest you to tell the truth and will not harm you in any way, as it is tried and tested by Nicholas Flamel himself."

He passed every student a vial and told them to drink it. Once every one drank the vial, he passed the papers.

He reminded loudly, "This exam will direct how I will teach magic to you. If you want to properly learn magic, do not try to cheat!"

Every student there was intimidated by the warning. As they were 8-year-olds, they were not cunning, nor did they care about marks so much. They decide to answer each question truthfully, especially after the warning their professor gave them. They were so fascinated with magic that they were afraid of the thought of losing it.

MAGIC THEORY PAPER

1) In your view, what is magic?

2) Which is more important? Knowledge on spells, or how to use them properly?

3) Why do you think you had accidental magic?

Every single question of the three were opinion based and did not have a fixed answer. This paper was to know how each student perceived magic. Every one started writing down the answers they saw fit.

After thirty minutes, everyone was done. This wasn't a timed test and everyone took their time answering each question. The fact that they took the potion also helped a lot. Professor Papillion walked around and collected the papers and stored them in a small cube.

He placed the cube on his table and then took out his wand. He whispered something incomprehensible, and suddenly his wand lit up. After the light died out, the first years looked around but found nothing new.

Professor Papillion said, "This cube is rigged. Anyone who tries to steal this cube will be expelled and tried on counts of blackmail and exhortation."

The first-years looked at each other blankly, as some of them did not even know the meaning of some of the words. Little did they know that those words were not even directed to them.

Professor Papillion was addressing the seniors who could now watch the first years while remaining hidden. Previously, they could not see their juniors since they could use this opportunity to sneak a peek at some of the answers their juniors wrote. After the test, Professor Papillion released the restriction that stopped the seniors from watching their juniors perform.

"Let the first lesson in Beauxbatons year of 1985 begin!"
