Chapter 1

[This will be one of the fanfics that will enter next week poll]

Near the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, inside a three-story house.

Eleven-year-old Kain Jobber was standing at the window, intently looking at the parchment in his hands.

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore (Order of Merlin, First Class, Supreme Mugwump, International Confederation of Wizards)

Dear Mr. Jobber,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed is a list of necessary books and equipment.

The term begins on September 1st. We await your owl no later than July 31st.

Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall

...

Yes, it was the Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Since he had arrived here eleven years ago, Kain had been waiting for this day.

And why he was so sure about it was simple because just next door lived several other special families.

Among them, the one Kain knew best was the eccentric editor, Lovegood.

And the Weasley family.

Especially the latter, with their bizarre building and all the red-haired family members, Kain was certain of the world he was in.

It's worth mentioning that living here also indicated that this life's Kain came from a wizarding family too.

His father, Chris Jobber, worked in the Department of Magical Creatures, serving as the Deputy Head of the Beast Division and was a renowned magizoologist, one of the few students of Newt Scamander, thanks to a family gift for communicating with magical creatures.

His mother, Diana, also worked at the Ministry, in the Department of Mysteries, but exactly what she did, Kain didn't know. He had tried to find out through various means, but all had failed. Clearly, his parents were very good at keeping secrets, not a hint of information had slipped through.

Family background... Well, since no particularly prominent figures had emerged from his ancestors, it was rather ordinary, especially compared to those famous names like Dumbledore or Grindelwald.

Nevertheless, Kain was quite content. After all, both his parents were wizards, so entering Hogwarts was definitely no issue.

Unless he was a Squib.

And that had been ruled out after his first magical outburst at the age of three.

Although he had always known this day would come, when the owl really did tap at his window with the envelope, Kain was so excited he almost jumped.

He treated that piece of parchment like a treasure, not letting go even in his sleep, and looked at it every few days.

...

"Son, you've been looking at that acceptance letter over and over for three days now, can you put it down? I assure you it's real!"

Chris looked somewhat helplessly at his son, who was starting to giggle again, and couldn't help speaking out: "Don't forget we've arranged to go to Diagon Alley with the Weasleys next door today; don't make them wait."

"Alright, Dad, I'm coming."

At his father's words, Kain quickly put away the well-worn Hogwarts acceptance letter, hastily stood up, and knocked on a wooden post next to him: "Groot, I'm off."

As soon as he finished speaking, a little green creature jumped out and waved at Kain.

The Jobber household did have magical creatures, but not many, apart from Groot, the tree-guardian, and Tom, a kneazle-cat.

Although Chris, as the Deputy Head of the Beast Division, could easily keep a dozen or two magical creatures, he chose not to. Even Groot and Tom stayed because they refused to leave.

It wasn't that Chris disliked magical creatures, but he believed that what are called magical creatures shouldn't be kept by wizards.

Those kept by one's side could only be called pets.

In this view, the gentle and somewhat old-fashioned gentleman at the Ministry was very firm.

This view was also supported by Newt Scamander.

Newt also believed that magical creatures should live in nature and had always acted accordingly.

As for why there were so many magical creatures in his peculiar suitcase, it was purely because of Newt's physical condition.

Kain had met the old man more than once, so he could be sure.

Just like some magical schoolboy reaper, Newt Scamander had a similar constitution.

Kain clearly remembered when he was five years old, walking in the garden with Newt, and seeing a Ball Dodge bird dive right into Newt's arms.

A Ball Dodge bird is a natural master of phasing and illusion, not very smart and not adept at hiding itself, but possessing a strong territorial sense and a keen sense of danger.

If they perceive a wizard or other threatening being nearby, they will escape immediately.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" describes the Ball Dodge bird as observable from afar, but unapproachable.

Yet such a bird had plunged precisely into Newt's arms.

Simply outrageous.

And there was the fire lizard he met at age seven with Newt, the injured unicorn at eight, and the fire crab that nearly made him into a cauldron at ten.

...

These magical creatures, whether smuggled into the British magical world or having wandered here by themselves, always seemed to find their way to Newt in the most unbelievable manners.

And this was while Newt stayed mostly at home.

Back when he carried that suitcase around the world to send magical creatures home, the situation was much worse.

Every time he returned a magical creature home, ten or twenty new ones would come crashing in; after a while, it was no wonder his suitcase was so full.

...

Having such a special gift, it's no wonder Newt was almost on every Ministry's black list.

After all, before meeting Newt, these magical creatures were not very friendly, especially the injured and pregnant ones, which could explode on the spot if slighted.

Imagine, you're leisurely drinking tea on the street, and suddenly a rampaging sphinx or a venom pouch panther jumps out next to you... Just thinking about it could make one sweat in fear.

So, what about Grindelwald or Voldemort, who need to personally cause destruction? Weak, right?

Look at Mr. Newt, who can make things disappear without lifting a finger, just by taking a short trip and enjoying some coffee and scenery, and afterwards, he doesn't even have to touch the aftermath.

Or maybe Grandma Tina is great, having effectively sealed Newt by her side. It's no exaggeration to say the whole world owes her an Order of Merlin, First Class.

Only the British magical community suffered.

According to incomplete statistics, since Newt settled in Dorset, the Ministry's incidents involving magical creatures started to increase exponentially, and the British magical world mysteriously became a hotspot for smugglers, unrivaled by any other.

Luckily, though numerous incidents occurred over the years, none had caused serious damage, mostly just some unfortunate ones getting minor injuries.

Perhaps as Newt's birthplace, this place also had some passive buff.

But Chris wasn't so lucky; due to his job, he had to work overtime every now and then.

Though Kain thought he seemed to enjoy it.

...

Outside the door, Kain realized that not only was Chris standing there, but his mother Diana had also come home early from the Ministry, smiling at him.

Her black hair was impeccably styled, and her black and white robe looked elegant and majestic on her. Her light blue eyes were full of tenderness as she looked at Kain.

Elegant and intellectual.

That had always been Kain's impression of Diana.

Subconsciously, Kain turned to look at Chris... well, somewhat handsome, and one could still see traces of his youthful charm. The couple did look good together.

Most importantly, Chris wasn't bald, even close to forty, the distance between his hairline and eyebrows was still about an inch. This was a stark contrast to Mr. Weasley next door.

Of course, with such strong genes, Kain naturally wasn't lacking either. Among those he knew, he could easily be ranked first, showing signs of a devastatingly handsome youth.

Of course, this wasn't important, and Kain never cared; he wasn't one to rely on looks to get by.

"Sorry, I'm late," Kain said, stepping between his parents, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"If you could put that letter away, maybe you wouldn't be late. Hogwarts isn't going to leave the UK because you didn't keep your letter safe," Chris teased Kain, making up a joke on the spot.

Well, it was sort of a joke, at least Chris laughed heartily after saying it.

As for Kel, although he didn't understand what Chris was laughing at, he politely twitched his lips, giving face to his father.

Thankfully, this didn't last long.

"Alright, it's getting late; we should be going," Diana said with a slight smile, breaking the awkward father-son interaction and taking Kain's hand. "There's a lot to buy for school, we need to hurry, and it's impolite to keep the Weasleys waiting."

With that, accompanied by a sharp crack, she disappeared with Kain on the spot.

Seeing this, Chris quickly apparated to follow.
