I swore Clyde had been staring at me for five minutes straight. I constantly had to avoid his gaze because I knew what he was staring at, but pretended like I had no clue. In fact everyone I had spoken to so far saw the exact same thing and from their facial expressions I was sure they wondered what I was up to the previous weekend.
"Were you in a fight with a coyote?" he finally asked when I could tell his curiosity had been burning for far too long.
I gaped as I looked at him with an 'are you serious?' face. "Of course not," I answered before I focused on the cow that came into the auction pen.
It was Monday morning and he asked me to come with him to the sale barn since that had always been our thing.
