His Secret #1

The sound of Diana's stomach reminded her of her need for food. It was easy to find the kitchen, and she didn't give another glance or thought to how it looked, only glad that the fridge was packed to the brim with ingredients and drinks, making her think of how Elliot had rushed to the supermarket to fill the fridge up a few days ago.

Being careful to not bump into anything or accidentally break anything, she took out cheese and decided to make a sandwich — if she could find where the bread was — but the moment she smelled the aroma coming out of the food, she felt her gut turn upside down and everything that was supposed to go down suddenly went right up.

She dropped everything from her hand, not caring about the sound and ran to the bathroom. She could only throw herself at the toilet as she threw up. She couldn't control her body as it shook and was only able to hold onto the sides of the seat.

The sound must have woken up Elliot because she felt a hand patting her on the back and another holding her hair up. She felt her stomach slowly empty up, and the stuffy feeling disappeared, but she found that all her power had been used.

"Come on now," Elliot whispered softly as he helped her up toward the sink where she rinsed her mouth and washed her face to feel a little better. He then took her toward the couch and sat her down. She saw him walking to the kitchen.

She didn't pay him any more attention as she tried getting rid of her exhaustion. She felt that she could barely lift her arms. And in no time, slowly the smell of ginger reached her and then Elliot emerged out of the kitchen and sat next to her, handing her a cup of hot tea.

"This is ginger tea. I hear it helps." He looked so unsure and worried. His eyes flickered to her and the cup when he saw her not taking it. "Do you want me to help?"

She shook her head and took the glass before drinking from it. She didn't mind the taste since the only thought she had in mind was not to throw up again.

The warmth spelling out of tea did calm her down, and she felt a lot better by the end. She mumbled a thank you to Elliot whose only response was to caress her cheeks gently. He was staring at her so deeply which made her only stare back, noticing the dark circles underneath his eyes. She almost thought that he could read her mind.

His sudden display of affection made her pull her guard right up, locking her heart deeply. She wasn't going to let herself fall into the hole that she had been in. She won't let herself be affected by that spell again.

"How are you feeling now, love?" He had finally asked after the long silence. She avoided his gaze and nodded silently, pushing him away at the same time to make some space.

She didn't know that her action had made Elliot frown, seemingly troubled. When she noticed, she ignored the way he was staring at her and acted as if nothing had happened, hoping that he won't ask any question.

She knew she was acting different from the one in her memory, but she couldn't help it with the way he was acting.

If anything was asked then, she only would have to say that she was feeling sick and tired. After all, it was common to experience mood swings.

Their 'moment' was interrupted by a blasting sound that Diana knew as Elliot's ringtone. It was obnoxiously high, and the singer seemed to be angry at someone, cursing in utter frustration.

Elliot left her on the couch after patting her on the head and searched for his phone. She saw how he walked away when he decided to pick it up and went to their bedroom, closing the door behind him.

She frowned. That was weird.

In her hazy memory, she saw him repeat that action a few times, but never questioned it before, maybe thinking that he had a lot of secret clients who he wouldn't like to talk about. But the current her was extremely curious as to why he would walk away from his 'dear wife' and go to answer the phone separately.

She narrowed her eyes.

There was something fishy.

She walked slowly toward the door, and lady luck had blessed her because the doors were paper thin and she was able to hear some of the things said on the other side.

"Yes, yes, I know."

"Really?"

"Didn't expect that from you-" then she heard him laugh. She couldn't hear the rest of what he said as his voice slowly got smaller - probably because he was walking around the room.

"Five pm tomorrow. Is that okay with you?" The volume of his voice got louder, nearing the door and Diana knew that the phone call was reaching its end. She could only act as if she was inspecting one of his gory drawings on the wall, next to the door.

Elliot saw his wife's nose stuck to the drawing as if she was uncovering some secret and narrowed his eyes.

Feeling his stare as he observed her, and she only returned his gaze with an expression she thought was neutral. Her poker face probably worked because he didn't question her and only went to wear his jacket, grabbing his phone. "Where are you going?" She asked.

"The guys are having a party. I'm going to drop by to see a potential client and come right back." He came closer and kissed her on the forehead, before holding her head between his hands and looking lovingly at her.

She clenched her teeth as she smiled.

"If anything went wrong, call me okay? I will come right back." She nodded silently and he walked out. She waited for a few minutes to make sure he wasn't coming back then entered their bedroom.

She ought to find something in his stuff.

She could remember instances of her talking to Elliot about her past and random things, rambling about trips and friends and him hearing her out, laughing every now and then but rarely ever sharing something from his mind or talking about his own past.

That seemed incredibly sketchy to her. Especially, if they were now married and had a baby on the way. From the attention and love he was giving her, one would probably think that he kept all his secrets with her.

She first opened his drawers and got everything out — making sure to maintain their order so she could return them right back in — and started searching every nook and corner. After she had finished with the drawers, she went to their closet and searched through all of his pockets and shoes…

Still nothing.

Diana didn't give up as she powered through searching underneath the bed and then going to the shelves and searched if there was anything hidden.

Again, nothing.

She had turned the room upside down and still found nothing around. She was panting and holding her hips with her hands, noticing how low her stamina was. She grimaced internally at her luck.

When she almost gave up and was about to throw herself on the bed for a break, she saw something reflecting light in the laundry basket.
