"Almost forgot about business while chatting," Kaeya said with a smile.
"Everyone, please follow us. Just up ahead is the renowned Dawn Winery, one of Mondstadt's most iconic establishments, famous not just within the nation but abroad as well."
He glanced back at the line of merchants trailing behind, and his smile widened, more amiable than before.
"You'll have a chance to taste some fine Mondstadt wines, and if anyone has business interests, you're more than welcome to speak with the winery staff."
Perfect—Liyue had brought a trade delegation along.
Ka-ching, tax revenue incoming!
Dawn Winery?
Gu Sanqiu shot a quick look at Kaeya, who was already deep into making connections, and he immediately understood why this particular knight was here to greet them. He hadn't forgotten Kaeya's connection with Diluc, even though those two barely saw eye to eye. Their personalities and the effects of past events made sure of that.
Kaeya always wore his laid-back mask, while that stoic expression on Diluc's face was basically set in stone, almost rivaling his own grandfather's poker face. Their Visions couldn't be more different—Ice and Fire. It was a wonder they didn't burn or freeze each other out completely on the spot.
On the outside, Kaeya, the Ice-wielding knight, was Mondstadt's reliable, ever-cheerful Cavalry Captain.
Diluc, with his Pyro Vision, kept his heart tightly locked behind an icy wall, a face of constant composure.
Not that Gu Sanqiu expected to see the winery's owner today. Given the recent troubles in Mondstadt, it'd be surprising if Diluc—Mondstadt's rumored Darknight Hero—was hanging around the winery at all.
As Kaeya blended smoothly into the group, chatting up the merchants, Gu Sanqiu took the opportunity to slip away. Let the Cavalry Captain work his people skills while he took a breather elsewhere.
Finding a sturdy branch in a nearby tree, he perched there quietly, watching a small Windcatcher Butterfly settle into the palm of his hand, its wings folded. In his mouth was a sprig of mint, his free hand gently guiding threads of Anemo energy to nourish the butterfly.
Unlike Slimes, which just ballooned in size when overfed, Windcatcher Butterflies were more like ethereal wisps, vanishing when handled. Some scholars even suggested that when they reached their peak form, they transformed into creatures like the Anemo Hypostasis.
"Crystalline cores…" he murmured, eyes on the delicate creature, letting it flutter around his head, releasing a few shimmering fragments as it went.
He'd heard that catching these butterflies caused them to disappear like a sea cucumber releasing its guts in a last-ditch effort to escape. Yet, this one remained, and when it left, he was left holding a tiny, glittering core in his palm.
"Oh?" He tilted it in the sunlight, admiring the faint streams of Anemo energy within. "Guess it's best not to overthink it. Otherwise, I'd end up wondering about hail and rain in a much weirder light."
As he tucked the core away, a gust of wind whipped by, turning his hair into something straight out of a manga hero transformation.
Turning around, he was stunned to find himself surrounded by a swarm of Windcatcher Butterflies, their ethereal wings filling the air as they circled around him. The Anemo energy swirling from them seemed ready to lift him right off the branch.
"What the—" He blinked. Windcatcher Butterflies didn't usually travel in groups; their value would be next to nothing if they did. It seemed one of them had given the rest a signal that he was a free energy buffet.
The fluttering intensified, the surrounding Anemo currents growing erratic, and his hair began to feel like it might get yanked right out.
Fine, he thought, seeing the determined little creatures, he'd be their giant living Anemo battery—just this once.
"Alright, fine."
With that, he spread his hands, channeling a steady flow of Anemo energy into the air. The butterflies immediately swarmed, emitting cheerful hums as they drew in the gentle streams of energy.
Down below, Kaeya's gaze drifted over to the tree line, one brow arching as he excused himself from the merchants to glance in Gu Sanqiu's direction.
"Hmm… That's an awfully strong wind. Is it our guest… or a new storm brewing?"
