Rescue

The moment Caspian arrived there, he imprisoned all the monsters near him in bubbles of water.

He scuttled through the bubbles of water, slicing off the heads of the jackals.

The water turned from blue to red as the animals kept dying and then dissolved into blood. It is only after he killed the fifth jackal that he realized.

These are not real beasts. They are blood beasts. They are accursed beasts eating away at the humans so that they could provide their master with energy. It's a demonic skill.

However, there is one place which gives skills like this.

The abyss.

Abyss is a one room dungeon with a single beast inside. It never gives a skill that is meant for a human. Those who get a skill from the abyss would not be able to acquire skills from normal dungeons. That one skill from Abyss is enough to triumph over ten skills in a normal dungeon.

' However, there shouldn't have been anyone who is good enough to get an abyss skill this year ' Caspian thought absent mindedly.

He kept killing the beasts, while raising his senses to perceive the surroundings.

" Mohmad ! the mastermind should be hiding in the vicinity. Go ! Bring him back to me. " Caspian ordered.

The broker nodded his head, and rushed away to find the mastermind.

As soon as he left, Caspian retrieved the dagger he received from Claire. He cut away the necks of the beasts, taking off the pressure from the closed doors of the orphanage.

Just as he killed the last Jackal, the broker returned with a boy in tow, his face all weird.

Looking at the fainted boy is like looking into a mirror, only, three years before.

That's how similar they are.

He must have been sent to the abyss. Caspian wondered if his escape had any effect on it. He cast a mirror spell on the boy, and as expected, there was corruption which was spreading through his core.

" Wake up. Wake up. " He tried waking the child, but he would not get up.

" Don't pretend to be asleep. I will throw you straight into the sea if you continue to do this. " Caspain grumbled.

The child opened his eyes.

Caspian could see the red creeping in the child's eyes.

" Why were you sent to the abyss ? Were you not supposed to get super senses to become a warrior ? " he asked.

Deeepsi looked at Caspian in shock. ' How did you know that? ' his expression was saying.

" Never mind. You have to cough up this skill you have gotten from the abyss. You haven't used it to kill any one as of yet, correct ? " Caspian asked.

Deeepsi's eyes widened at the words. He shrank into himself, full of unwillingness to give up the only skill he has.

" You can get rid of the skill, or you can get rid of your life. It is your choice. I will not let a demon live, no matter his character. " Caspian said coldly, leaving no room for discussion.

Yes, he wanted the family desperately, but that did not mean he would cover for them blindly. He never thought had Claire not been his friend, he would have become the demon himself.

The child gestured.

" You can't ? … not … that … you … won't ? "

Deeepsi nodded eagerly.

" Mohmud ! Come here and tie up this guy. If he so much as twitches in the wrong direction, stab a dagger in his heart. " he ordered the broker.

Mohmud came over eagerly, and sat watch even more diligently.

After watching the battle just now, he clearly recognized Caspian is not a person he could cross. So, for now, absolute obedience is the only way to go.

Caspian went to the slime dungeon and waited for Claire. Their agreement was that in the morning and night, Claire will wait in the dungeon at certain times to wait for him.

She was not there both times.

So, Caspian kept Deeepsi captive, at the same time he took a review of the entire population of the abandoned base.

They have more than twenty women here, ranging in age from fifteen to twenty five. The children numbered in hundreds, with specializations in ice, metal and water.

Just a few days ago, they had a culling, which means releasing children into the wild. The ones who come back will be acknowledged and directly made mercenaries. The ones who die, will just die. In such situations, most children just die. When they left, the administrators took all the food with them. For almost two hundred and fifty people, there is no food to be had at the station. Perhaps that was the reason a culling happened in the first place.

' If you don't want to feed the children, don't f**king make them. ' Caspian thought angrily as he looked at the scrawny children and the pregnant women.

' One day, I am going to shred these bastards into pieces. ' he made a vow.

However, first, he had to search for survivors among culling. He rushed out, searched all over the hill and beyond in a twentyfive mile radius, but there were no signs.

Amongst this search, Caspian still kept up his schedule of going to the slime dungeon at designated time every day.

On the third day, Claire was waiting for him.

If it were anyone else, they would have exploded with a 'where were you? '.

" I have an urgent need for food. I also have some need for searching. Are you up for it ? " he asked her directly.

Claire thought for a moment.

" Let me tell Zayne. " She answered.

If it were before, she would have taken Zayne with her, but with the explosion fresh in her mind, it is impossible to leave the children alone.

Zayne obviously disagreed for her to go alone with Caspian.

In the end, they made a truce, and agreed to Brie going along with Claire.

Thus, they two went to the base along with Caspian.

Claire just did her survey flashing mile to mile, spreading out her perception. Surprisingly, she found a survivor.

' Isn't she the little girl I saw in my dreams ? ' She thought as she looked at the girl.

She rushed the child to Brie, so that Brie could heal her.

As the girl opened her eyes, the first words she said were ' Mother '.

" Mother … I survived… " She said before she closed her eyes to sleep.

Claire was surprised at first, before she remembered the words and the feelings that she tried to convey so hard in that fleeting dream. The girl must be very special to be able to catch that.

" Well done. " She said, caressing the child's head. One of the women who took care of the children arrived, with a bowl of porridge in her hands, feeding it to the starved child.

Even in her sleep, the child's frown changed to peaceful content.

Claire felt a burning in her throat looking at the girl. Looking at the little girl, it was like seeing a younger version of herself.

However, her work is not done.

She remembered when she had seen the girl for the first time, she was in some kind of ditch. There were more children in that ditch, and if the outside weather is any indication, she must retrieve them fast if they are to stay alive.

Even the children with enough resourcefulness to survive will die if you throw them away in an extreme situation.

" Brie ! Watch over and heal them. " She said, dropping off even more supplies.

She had not used Flash to the full extent till now in any operation. Sure, she ran from her school to the base, but that's plain acceleration assisted running.

Now, she stretched her abilities to the maximum, opening mirror eyes, running with flash, blinking to the hard to reach places, leaving marks at the same time. The location she has chosen was where the little girl has come up.

She looked around using her mirror eyes, spotting even the slightest bit of mana traces. That is how she saw it. The smallest bit of icy mana is still active in the footsteps. She rushed to the path, identifying the footsteps, running all the way to the cave.

The cave had a fully grown black bear in it. The bear rushed towards her. At the last moment, she sidestepped, and swiped the dagger in her hand at the back of bear's neck, at the same time, blinking away from the position immediately.

The dagger barely caused a scratch. The paw that the black bear swung made an indentation in solid rock. If so much as the bear's finger nail touches her, her body will burst. Thus, She never took chances, only patiently kept swiping at the bear with blinks and flash, killing the bear in the end.

She sighed a breath of relief as she entered the cave.

She soon discovered a small hole, through which the little girl seemed to have come up. She sensed the terrain. Made changes to it, which consumed both her time and mana as she did it.

As she followed the tunnel, she realized. This is the path into the Wulin headquarters. She just found a hack into the Wulin headquarters.

As she continued onwards, even more spiritedly, the first place that she has expected came along.

The ditch where the children were abandoned.

Right now, one could not tell whether they are alive or dead !

' As long as one of you is alive, I will make sure to save you ' Claire vowed as she saw the scrawny children.
