Chapter 16

　　Peach watched as Jake nodded slowly. He seemed to be beside himself, but she didn’t care. She wanted to know the truth, the real truth. She walked rigidly away from the doorpost, deeper into the house.

　　The smell of toffee, and green beans hit her nostrils. It smelt just like home. It was almost like home, but unfortunately, it wasn’t hers anymore. She belonged to somewhere else and not here. Wait, where did she belong? She had no idea. Nothing made a leak of sense. Everything was in shambles.

　　Jake moved quietly to his office, and she followed suit. She was aware of Amy and Kobe looking at her with pure sadness etched on their faces. They wanted to reach out to her, but she didn’t want to be reached. She couldn’t bear saying anything to them now. She was afraid she might shatter like glass.
