Durable Empowered Series

“Keith and I watched in awe and joy as the inexplicable happened. Nikki was alive! My mate was back! Then suddenly, those brown eyes I loved so much started morphing. Her right eye lightened and became as golden as mine after I shifted into my wolf. While her left eye deepened and became black before turning blood red like Keith’s right before he feeds. It was unfeasible but there she laid a vampire-werewolf hybrid.” Nicolette Winspere always felt out of step with the world around her and for good reasons. She is a genetically engineered vampire-werewolf hybrid but she has no idea! Created as the ultimate weapon, Nicolette is a timid African American woman caught in the middle of a deadly war between humans and non-humans. The humans want her to destroy their natural enemies the vampires and werewolves; while her creator wants to use her to avenge an over 2 millennia-year old slight. After narrowly escaping the clutches of her “parents”, she begins a new life with no intentions of looking back. However, after 5 years of freedom, her hybrid genes start attacking her human ones forcing her to do the one thing she swore never to do…return to where it all began. Upon her arrival home, Nicolette finds herself in a desperate fight to keep her life, her freedom, and her humanity all while dealing with the unexpected re-appearance of an old flame. Truths will come to light, the inexplicable will happen, and monsters will be birthed!

***Title would have given it away****

Sue-Ann never stood a chance. Seduction was Titus' specialty. He had been perfecting his skill for almost 2 millennia He listened as her heart rate rose and waited a few beats until the scent of her arousal met his nose.

He grinned in satisfaction and delved right in; firing a volley of questions at her. Questions about every nook and cranny of her life. No topic was off limits.

With a goofy smile pasted on her face, a sordid story of hate and abuse poured from Sue-Ann lips. As the crowd listened to her, even the staunchest among them blanched in horror. As he listened, Titus' eyes kept switching back and forth between green and red. By the time Sue-Ann was finished, they had settled on red…slits of red.

Ice cold fury unfurled deep inside him and spread until it blanketed the room.

The room erupted in chaos as, in an instance, Dr. Levi' features began to change. His now wide irises bled into his pupils turning them blood red while his skin turned deathly pale. Sharp canines dropped from his lips turning his already alluring face into a bestial beauty.

"YOU STUPID HUMAN! YOU DARED TO HURT MY CREATION!! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! YOU PUNY TWIT. Do you have any idea how long I have waited for something like Nicolette?! How many of my kind and those stinking mutts I had to kill before I got the perfect specimen? That is my daughter!"

The need for revenge flooded his body. Death and destruction seeped from every one of his pores and pulsed through the room gripping the occupants with terror and trepidation.

It had been a long time since Titus felt the need to vent his frustration. Half his mind dipped into the well of madness that had been filling up since his mate's betrayal a millennia and a half ago. The other half calculated just how much damage he could inflict and still leave his company running efficiently.

With a well thought out plan in place, the being that the Winsperes knew as calm, well-spoken, Dr. Levi, became the very monster they had dedicated their lives to eliminating.

They were all frozen in place and forced to watch as he grabbed the nearest councilman by the neck and twisted. He fell to the ground with a loud thud.

A ghastly gasp echoed through the room but no one moved. Some peed themselves and a few others blacked out. Still, they remained standing. Their minds were screaming "Run!" but they had lost all control of their bodies.

Titus looked around the room and grinned, porcelain incisors gleaming, at the pitiful humans who had no idea that for the last fifty years everyone that worked at P.O.A.H. was helping him to advance his agenda. He scoffed as he thought about how intent they were on destroying all things inhuman while he had been quietly injecting them with his own blood every six months.

They were less human than the monkey that they were thought to have evolved from. Their bodies were his puppets to do with what he will.

A manic laugh slithered from his lips as he turned and continued his massacre of the Council. He clawed, ripped, and drank from their bodies until there was nothing left but lumps of flesh.

It was a grotesque, nightmarish, scene that made even the most psychopathic of them physically sick.

Once the councilmen were dead, the doctor shifted back into his human form. He stood up, smiled charmingly, and returned to the front of the room. He called his trusted right hand man and within minutes a new set of councilmen where brought in.

While they were being briefed, a crew came in and cleaned up the abhorrent scene. There was a brief stillness and then the moderator was handing down the sentence. Amazingly, the Winsperes had been spared, for now.

However, the doctor in charge of Nicolette's development, who was also on trial, wasn't so lucky; he was terminated. That was the official story but everyone knew that he was dead.

The Winsperes' sentence was merciful but still harsh. Peter and Sue-Ann would have to find Nicolette in order to redeem themselves in the eyes of the Council. P.O.A.H would also have agents looking for their treasure. If they found her first then the Winsperes and everyone connected to them would be annihilated.

Peter and Sue-Ann' relief was palpable as they left the building as quickly as possible. They had to buy their own tickets, for a commercial flight, back home but it gave them time to make plans.

They had to find Nicolette before anyone else did. They were feeling a certain, inexplicable, terror that drove the urgency to find the runaway.

By the time the meeting attendees got home, the events of the day were a hazy memory but it was accompanied by a peculiar feeling of fear and dread. One by one, they all decided it was best not think about it too much.
