10 Complications

The next morning, the horns blew and Garrick was the first to awaken. He was ready in under thirty seconds.

In the week he was gone, everyone improved and was ready in time. Even the blanket guy was dressed even though he didn't look awake.

Garrick inspected each person before they left the barrack and helped everyone tidy up until everyone looked sharp.

He lined up last.

Sergeant Jefferstone saw Garrick line up last. He looked at the men with a cold stare.

He made a B-line for Garrick.

"Now you're the last person to line up. Didn't I fix this problem? Are you pouting, have you decided you are going to be last to spite me?" Spittle flew out of the sergeant's mouth.

"No, sir, you instructed me last time that I was to make sure each person was ready for roll call before I lined up. Do you still want me to do that, sir?"

The sergeant sized him up. "Fine, you were following orders."

Jefferstone turned to his right and went before his men.

"Today, your task is to capture one Blazing Rabbit each. The Blazing Rabbits are called that because they can run so fast that a fire starts beneath their feet.

There are plenty of rabbits in the forest, and whoever doesn't finish gets latrine duty for one week.

That is all, dismissed!"

Garrick and the others ran toward the forest together. As they ran, Garrick came up to Brell, the number two in the barracks. At least, Jefferstone designated him as number two while Garrick was with the old horse.

"Do you know much about these rabbits?" Garrick asked Brell.

Brell looked at Garrick and sighed.

"I don't know if you're unlucky or not. Although our training hasn't been easy while you were gone, none of us have suffered like you. It cannot be helped," he sighed once more.

Garrick received another notification for receiving a small tenth of a point. He was ready to try one of his playable characters, but it looked like getting enough points to do so wasn't going to happen any time soon.

Brell looked forward as he ran and explained, "The Blazing Rabbits are pretty common to the forest, but once you spook one of them you spook all of them.

This is a contest of speed, whoever gets a rabbit first is lucky, but everyone else is out of luck."
