Chapter 2: Miscarriage

She raised her arm and stared at the wounds and scratches on her skin then looked at the cast on her left leg.

Scarlet knew what was going on in her mind, "Don't worry, it will heal in time. For now, let's focus on your recovery okay?" Violet nodded.

She once looked around the room, trying to find someone. "Do you need anything?" Scarlet softly inquired.

Violet looked back at her and simply shook her head.

They tried to talk to her, distracting her from looking at her cast and wounds, but Violet only shook her head, "I want to rest for a while."

They didn't disturb her anymore.

Violet went back to sleep again, and Scarlet discussed with the doctor to inquire more about Violet's condition.

"Will she undergo surgery for her left leg?" Scarlet asked, yesterday the doctor reported regarding Violet's left leg soft tissue damage.

"Your sister's injury is a Grade 2, It is still uncertain whether she requires surgery but many injuries can heal on their own."

"But you said there are still effects, I don't want her to suffer from it, this will only make her more mentally unstable." Violet's leg was injured because of the accident, although there is a low chance of surgery this doesn't mean she won't experience the pain from the Tissue damage of her leg.

Her career is all about walking in the runaway, and she doesn't even dare to think about what would happen to her sister if it gets worse.

"I'm sorry Miss Denis, a soft tissue injury may be considered catastrophic if there's potential for long-term or temporary effects, right now we are still unable to determine it. We have to wait."

Scarlet weakly nodded. They can't do anything, she can't do anything but wait.

When she went back to the ward, Elise was standing just beside the door, dazedly staring at her feet.

"Scarlet, I have to tell you something."

Her eyebrows furrowed when she noticed how anxious Elise is.

The two of them went into an empty corridor.

Elise raised her head, and with her eyes glistening with tears that are about to fall, she told Scarlet, what she had been holding for a long time.

"This…actually… Violet doesn't want anyone to know, but now, I think you should know about this. She… She had a miscarriage."

Scarlet knew very well what Elise said, but at this moment, she felt as if she doesn't understand a word she said.

"What do you mean?"

"I don't know who's the father of the child but… but after she lost her child, she started drinking alcohol more often and smoke, sometimes she would even consume one pack of cigarette in a day."

Scarlet felt numb as she stared at Elise whose tears are flowing like a dam.

"Coraline doesn't know about this, I was always with her because I was afraid something would happen to her, but at that time, there was a family emergency so I had to go. I didn't know... I didn't she would end up in this state...I'm sorry. I don't know what I should do…"

She knows it isn't Elise's fault but she couldn't utter a word to comfort her.

"I'm sorry."

"What caused the miscarriage?" Her voice is void of any emotions. She felt like this was a perfunctory question she has to ask, cause until now she couldn't any of the words Elise said.

"I don't know, she never told me. She only called me after the operation."

Scarlet nodded and leaned on the white wall as she inhaled a mouthful of air.

"When did this happen?"

"More than a month ago. She didn't do any modeling. Caroline was livid because of her behavior but at that time, Violet won't let me tell Caroline what happened."

Scarlet started to think more about it, and it indeed matches up with what Elise said. They both have their places, other than their meetups and the time they have a family dinner every Saturday, they barely meet each other. She didn't notice anything, or maybe… she didn't look enough.

"I understand, thank you for telling me this."

They both stayed silent and got busy with their thoughts.

They both went back to the ward after awhile. Scarlet paused in her steps when she saw the guy sitting on the wall-mounted chair in front of the ward door.

Razi.

"Why are you here?"

"Auntie told me." She glanced at him and noticed he was simply wearing gray sweatpants and a white shirt. She stared at his forehead that still has some sweat on it, she's sure Razi immediately went over after their practice.

Razi turned at her.

"How is she?"

Scarlet looked away from his gaze and stared at the door in front of them. "She's.. fine. There are only some complications concerning her memories and left leg."

They both got quiet.

Razi stood up. "I'll go now."

"You don't want to see her?"

"I don't want to disturb her."

Scarlet nodded and stared at his back as he walked away.

"Razi." He stopped and glanced at her.

She didn't know why she called him.

She simply feels that this awkwardness and distance between the two of them is frustrating.

But she knows things can't go back the way it was before.

Scarlet shook her head,"…Nothing. Be careful driving home."

He nodded and lightly smiled at her, "I'll visit again tomorrow."
