After listening to Xenia Wendleton's narration, Basil Jaak found himself having experienced all these things before. Yet, her telling brought about feelings he had never had before.
"Do you love him?" Basil Jaak asked Xenia Wendleton, looking directly at her.
"Uh..." Xenia blushed instantly, quickly burrowing her head into her knees.
Basil Jaak did not give up due to Xenia's ostrich-like reaction, he continued to press: "You like him, don't you?"
"I don't know!" Xenia shook her head, struggling for a while, and then lifted her teary eyes.
Basil Jaak watched Xenia, her eyes brimming with tears. It felt as though a sharp knife had pierced its way through his heart, causing sudden pain. He reached out to wipe away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
However, Xenia jumped like she had been electrocuted, avoiding Basil's touch.
"I just wanted to wipe your tears, nothing more." Basil Jaak raised his hand, explaining, "Don't worry, I won't hurt you."
