Chapter 53: The Possible Truth

Zhao Hai clenched his fist and pounded the ground, speaking solemnly, "Why is it like this? Have our previous efforts been in vain?"

Green patted Zhao Hai's shoulder and reassured him, "No, Young Master, don't worry. We will find a way to solve this."

Zhao Hai's complexion was still grim, and he looked at the ground and said, "No, you don't understand. Such a vast land, now it's unusable. I had planned to improve this land and turn it into a granary for the continent. Unfortunately, it seems that this plan cannot be realized."

Zhao Hai clapped his hands, a look of frustration on his face. This attack was a heavy blow to him. The land was so vast that it was impossible to transform it completely in a short time. If these Magic Beasts had appeared before he had finished the transformation, all his efforts would have been wasted. Even if he had completed the transformation, the appearance of these Magic Beasts would render his efforts useless.

Green and the others didn't know how to comfort Zhao Hai. They understood his current mood, and anyone in this situation would feel terrible.

Zhao Hai looked at Black Wasteland and sighed. Then he turned and walked towards the mountains. After taking a couple of steps, he stopped and muttered, "Something doesn't seem right about this."

Green and Merine turned around and looked at Zhao Hai curiously. Green asked, "Young Master, what's wrong?"

Zhao Hai pointed to the mountain and asked, "Grandpa Green, do you notice anything on that mountain?"

Green looked at the mountain and frowned, saying, "There doesn't seem to be anything, just some weeds. Weeds? Right, should there be weeds on this mountain? If the black soil in Black Wasteland has turned like this due to the toxins from these Magic Beasts, shouldn't the soil on that mountain be affected too? This doesn't make sense."

Merine also noticed the weeds on the mountain and realized that her previous assumption was incorrect. She had thought she was correct, but now she realized she had been mistaken.

Zhao Hai continued to turn in circles on the ground, trying to figure out why the land had turned like this. Gradually, Zhao Hai unconsciously walked towards the moat. He didn't stop his footsteps and stood near the moat, staring blankly at the pale-green river water.

Merine and Green became anxious as they watched Zhao Hai standing motionless near the moat. They were worried that something might have happened to him.

Suddenly, Zhao Hai clapped his hands and said, "I think I've figured it out!"

Green asked, "Young Master, what did you figure out?"

Zhao Hai pointed to the river water and said, "The river is flowing, but it's still light green. In other words, there must be Magic Beasts going down into the swamp. But why would these Magic Beasts go there? There's nothing to eat, so I think they must be going to the lake for some purpose. Most likely, they are taking a bath."

"Taking a bath?" Green and Merine exchanged puzzled glances. They thought Zhao Hai was going crazy.

Merine quickly said, "Young Master, you should rest."

Zhao Hai turned to Merine and asked, "Merine, don't you believe what I just said?"

Merine forced a smile and said, "Young Master, these Magic Beasts come from Carrion Swamp where there's a shortage of water. Why would they come here to take a bath?"

Zhao Hai pointed at the lake and said with conviction, "That's the point. Although there's a shortage of water in Carrion Swamp, the water there is poisonous. If the air is poisonous, why wouldn't the water be? So they use that water to take a bath, but it's like they're not washing at all. I think they must be looking for some clean water to take a bath."

As Zhao Hai spoke, Green and Merine were taken aback. They hadn't thought of that possibility before, but now it seemed plausible.

Zhao Hai became more convinced as he spoke, and Green and Merine felt the same. The more they listened, the more it made sense. Zhao Hai's explanation seemed to fit the situation.

However, Green frowned and said, "If these Magic Beasts consider this place as a place to expel toxins, then the frequency of them coming out of Carrion Swamp must be very high. That would be a big problem for us."

Upon hearing Green's words, the excitement on Zhao Hai's face disappeared. He realized that although he had possibly discovered the truth behind the situation, he hadn't found a solution yet.

Frowning, Zhao Hai paced back and forth on the ground. Merine looked at Zhao Hai's expression and couldn't help but glance at Green. She suggested, "Young Master, let's not think about it too much for now. First, let's neutralize the poison in the water. We can use the water from your Space to do it."

Zhao Hai snapped out of his thoughts and looked at Black Wasteland. He took a deep breath and said, "Alright, let's deal with the current situation. If this problem has occurred, then there must be a solution. Let's think it through slowly."

After saying that, Zhao Hai turned around and walked towards the mountains. Green and Merine looked at Black Wasteland, sighed, and followed Zhao Hai towards the mountains. They were concerned that there might still be Magic Beasts in the lake, putting Zhao Hai in danger.

When the three of them reached the entrance of the mine tunnel, Green entered without waiting for Zhao Hai. Merine, however, held onto Zhao Hai and said, "Young Master, wait. Let Green check first."

Helplessly, Zhao Hai stopped and waited. Soon, Green's voice came from inside, "Young Master, Merine, come in. There are no Magic Beasts on the surface."

Zhao Hai and Merine then entered the mine tunnel. When they reached the lakeside on the mountain, Green was already standing there, staring blankly at the lake water. Merine quickly cast an illumination spell, revealing the current state of the lake water to the three of them.

The green color in the lake water was much deeper and more uncomfortable to look at than the pale-green moat water.

Zhao Hai sighed and said, "What a good lake water. Who would have thought that these creatures would use it for bathing? It's so infuriating." As he spoke, he opened his Space and directed the Spatial Water into the lake water.

However, what Zhao Hai didn't expect was that as soon as the Spatial Water entered the lake, a chemical reaction seemed to occur. The green color in the lake water started to dissipate rapidly, disappearing from their sight at a speed faster than they could follow.

Zhao Hai and the others watched in disbelief. While they knew that the water from the Space could neutralize the poison, they didn't expect it to work so quickly. How could it react so swiftly when the water in the Space didn't flow?

After a while, Zhao Hai said uncertainly, "I wonder if the water here is still poisonous. Merine Grandma, please check it."

Merine, as a Water element mage, was suitable for this task. She nodded, extended her hand into the lake water, and quietly recited several incantations. A group of blue light emitted from her hand and disappeared into the lake water like scattered stars in the sky.

Soon, the blue lights that had vanished gathered together again in Merine's hand, slowly disappearing. Merine opened her eyes and said in shock, "This is unbelievable. The toxins have completely vanished; there's nothing left."

Zhao Hai immediately said, "Let's go back to the castle and see." The three of them quickly walked toward the outside of the castle. When they reached the moat, they saw that the water had become clear again, with no trace of the green color.

However, Zhao Hai was still worried. He asked Merine to conjure a water ball to examine whether it was still poisonous. According to the prompt from his Space, the water was completely clean and even contained certain anti-poisonous properties. It was an unexpected harvest.

Once Meg and the others finished tidying up, Merine used her Water element magic to thoroughly clean the inside and outside of the castle. Finally, with everything done, the castle could finally be inhabited again.
