The intruder

She exited the car and hurried in like she was being pursued.

Lin Jing's face was pale when she stepped into her apartment. She rechecked if the door was closed before she hurried into her room and locked the door behind her.

Her legs felt so weak as soon as she was in the safety of her room and she fell to the soft white rug. She remained still in that position for what felt like an eternity before she raked through her hair with her fingers.

Her life just got threatened by someone capable of taking that life. He wanted her body and he meant he would kill her if he could not have it.

She swallowed and she did not hold back the strong urge she felt to scream. She rubbed her face and stood up and staggered to the bed. She fell on it and she did not have any idea of who to go to for help.

Only a few people knew and understood the powers of the Lu family and she was one of those people who by chance got to know how deep their powers have buried themselves in the country.

His family was the richest in the country for the past two generations starting from his grandfather who built a construction company that constructed almost all the major roads in the capital.

As much as his family was not involved in politics, they were still friendly with politicians. His mother who was a doctor when she married into his family, ran a small clinic she started before she married his father and the hospital became him under their group after her death.

He increased and increased their progress from the moment he joined the group officially when he turned twenty.

No one could deny his extreme progress when he became the CEO and it was undeniable that he would become the chairman one day. He also had no brothers or cousins to compete with him making him the only heir.

She just got threatened by such a man who had both money and power. She will find it hard to escape that one. Her phone rang and she picked up the call immediately.

"I was about to call you," she told the man on the other end. "I am back home."

"I should not have spoken to you that way, after all, I found out you were abused by them. I am sorry," he apologized aloofly.

No matter how he tried to sound indifferent, it was not tricky for her to notice the substance in his voice. She smiled and nodded although it was only a phone call.

"It is alright. Lu Tian gave me a ride home, could you help me thank him?" she asked as she wanted that so badly. Perhaps knowing that his friend cared about her, he might forget about her.

Well, that was what she hoped.

"I will sleep well then," he told her sounding slightly guilty.

She smiled and hung up. Perhaps she might be able to survive it even after the time he told her to meet him. Hopefully, he will call her to tell her she does not need to go.

*******

Lin Jing could not go to work as she called in sick the following morning. She was so bothered throughout the night even after trying to encourage herself to not be scared.

She was also scared of stepping out of the house because she had not gotten over the trauma of getting kidnapped in the underground parking lot of her apartment.

She imagined getting kidnapped again throughout the night and she remained holed up in her room until it was midnight when she could not keep sitting down in her room without eating anything.

Her stomach grumbled for the nth time and she weakly stood on her shaky legs and walked out of her room for the first time in more than twenty-four hours.

The last thing she wanted was to get found in her room dead after dying of starvation. She used the walls to support her body as she walked into the living room.

"I thought you were never going to come out of your room," came a voice from her living room.

She was too weak to scream as she made out the figure sitting in her living room. She wondered why she had not taken note of the presence of someone in her living room when she walked in.

She sighed and turned on the lights in the kitchen and walked to the fridge. She did not have the strength to fight the person in the room if he came to kill her because she missed the appointment, but she did not want to die with an empty stomach.

The disappointment will be bad. she worked hard all her life to the point she was and it would be pathetic for that to happen when one of the reasons she worked so hard was to never end up with an empty stomach again.

"You should not bother to cook anything," she heard that voice order with so much coldness she felt a tingle in the back of her neck as the hairs on her body rose.

She glanced at the dark figure that was slightly lightened by the light from the kitchen although far from where he sat in her spacious living room. She noticed a couple of paper bags on the table beside the chair he sat on.

She turned and opened her fridge wondering why he was in such a hurry to kill her. She pulled out a bottle of milk and took a cup. She has always taken it as a priority to drink a cup of milk before eating when she was eating late.

She sipped from the glass of milk slowly to get her abdomen used to the new feeling of a substance in it after hours of emptiness.

She made herself comfortable on a stool as she rested her upper body on the marble island. It was cold yet the smoothness of the surface felt pleasant against the skin of her exposed arm.

She could feel the gaze of the man in her living room on her as she did what she wanted at that moment, after all, he was the reason she dreaded coming out of her room for more than twenty-four hours.

She wondered how long he had been sitting in her living room and why he knew she was at home. She also wondered how he got in but she knew there was almost nothing impossible for him, his father's construction company built the apartment building.

He stood up and she could hear his faint footsteps as he approached her. She rested the side on her face on the island and closed her eyes.

This would be a perfect way to kill her. Her sister was her heir so all she had worked hard for would be given to the girl to make her life better. She had nothing else to worry about.
