December Double Drop!
---
"Are you all done with your questions?"Decarabian glanced at the group. "Most of what you asked was within my expectations. Still... I suppose I'm fortunate you have some peculiarities among you."
Oddity No. 1: Gu Sanqiu. Oddity No. 2: Tartaglia. Oddity No. 3: Albedo. Oddity No. 4: Bennett.
"Does this mean you're willing to withdraw your influence over Mondstadt?"
"No."
The group's expressions shifted immediately.
Decarabian continued, "I'll give you two choices."
"First, I won't withdraw my power's influence, but I can contain it to a limited area, transforming this place into a domain you can use for trials."
He looked into the distance, piercing the many layers of this space.
"It seems… an old acquaintance of mine is still putting up quite the fight against my power. He hasn't lost his edge since he once dared bare his fangs at me."
What?!
Everyone was stunned by Decarabian's statement—or rather, what he was implying.
Creating a training ground in Mondstadt that could strengthen them?
It sounded insane. Sure, it might not be the safest setup, but they had seen the stats on these creatures. If they spent time here fighting them, there was no doubt their own power levels would increase. Still, the fact that a figure, historically seen as a tyrant, was offering them such a place? Either he had lost his mind, or they had.
"Option two: I retract my influence entirely. The land will return to how it once was. Choose."
"Could we ask why?" Diluc interjected, frowning. Thanks to the protection from a certain presence in Wolvendom, the Dawn Winery had remained mostly unaffected by Decarabian's power. Still, the god's actions defied all expectations.
"Why should I tell you?" Decarabian said coolly. "Our little question-and-answer session is over. What I choose to do has nothing to do with you insects."
"Then could you allow us to discuss this… just for five minutes? No, three will do."
"Fine."
"However, during that time…" Decarabian pointed to Gu Sanqiu. "You, come with me."
What?
Gu Sanqiu raised an eyebrow. "Can I say no? How about we compromise, and you tell me why?"
"Because you're more interesting."
Decarabian moved deeper into the space. "Compared to that man who leeches power from his life force, you're a stranger case altogether. So are you coming?"
"Oh dear, you're making this sound like you've got something intriguing waiting for me. I'd hate to miss out." Gu Sanqiu immediately stepped forward. "Guess I'll be a little shameless and tag along."
As they reached the back of the chamber, Decarabian cast a barrier around them, blocking out sound, before turning back to the casually nonchalant Gu Sanqiu, hands in his pockets.
"Why… do I sense a certain presence on you?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Gu Sanqiu held up his Vision, dangling it before him. "I mean, you can't say you didn't notice this."
"Hmph. Interesting. Dodging the question, are we?" Decarabian's gaze sharpened as he scrutinized him further. "Your condition, though… that is quite peculiar."
"All right, save me from the medical assessment," Gu Sanqiu said with a dramatic eye-roll. "I'm here in Mondstadt on some business for my worrywart older sister, not as anyone's lab rat. I have zero interest in becoming someone's experimental material."
"Hmm. I'm not interested in making you my experiment. My question is whether you would want my power."
"Pardon?" Gu Sanqiu gave him a bewildered look. "What, you think I'm just some charmer here to get a legacy handout?"
"No, a mortal becoming a god isn't that simple. You wouldn't survive my full legacy," Decarabian replied. "Nor do I wish to be hounded by your people's 'guardian of the spear.' I have no desire to test the sharpness of his rock-hard resolve."
Decarabian shrugged, almost human in his expression. "But lending you some of my power? That should be manageable."
"I'm fairly certain I don't have much say in refusing, but may I ask why? Is it actually because I'm just that charming?"
"Mortal, if you must know, I walked among your kind with a form far more charming than yours."
"Oh please, unlike you, I can't just magic up the face of a sweet puppy or a fierce wolf at will. I was born with this face; it's what I've got. Must be nice to change at will."
With a gesture of his hand, Decarabian slammed Gu Sanqiu into the ground.
"Should I interpret that as mockery—suggesting a god like me is 'parentless'?"
"Don't pretend you were thinking about it. You already attacked."
Gu Sanqiu grumbled as he climbed out of the Gu-shaped crater.
"All right, jokes aside. Why would you want to give me your power?"
"When the tower fell, I wondered if perhaps my failure had been caused by a god's excessive deliberation, but I soon found that wasn't the case," Decarabian said quietly. "Even humans can be complex; there are those who lived under my shelter and those who fought for freedom."
"And this diversity of humankind? That was precisely the key that shattered my dream."
Gu Sanqiu scoffed, "A bit of an overthinker, aren't you? Please don't tell me you're now trying to 'think more like a human' and embrace diversity. Are you certain your divine stature can handle that?"
"Exactly—I can't." Decarabian chuckled. "It's far beyond me, as I was born as something entirely different, and my life experiences ensure that I could never blend into humanity."
"Perhaps the god of your Liyue—one who washed away all foes and guards that mortal realm—could achieve it."
"And the price for it? Who knows?"
Decarabian's gaze bore into him, deep and assessing.
"So, I will lend you a portion of my power. Through you, I'll witness today's world."
"You… are the one I've chosen."
"A mortal tempered by a thousand trials who stands firm. Now, with the support of the Fierce Wind… I wonder just how far you'll go. A promising future indeed."
Decarabian extended his right hand in a gesture that left no room for refusal.
"However, there's one thing you did guess correctly."
"Lending you my power? I never planned to ask your permission."
"Damn it!"
Gu Sanqiu had no way to resist. A surge of emerald wind-elemental energy flooded from Decarabian's hand into his body, instantly turning his eyes the same vivid green.
"Accept my power—and once you're outside, keep it quiet. If that guardian of yours in Liyue discovers you wield this force, I can't say what he'll do."
Decarabian cast a fleeting glance at Gu Sanqiu's Vision.
"I'm not sowing discord, but… given the connection you two share, I trust you won't waste my gift."
"Consider this, mortal. You now carry a god's power!"
