The message comes in as I'm sitting at my desk, staring blankly at the latest report. It's from Stanton Tech, one of my largest contracts, and at first, I think it's just routine paperwork. But when I open it, I feel my blood run cold.

We regret to inform you that our agreement with Hawthorne Enterprises is being terminated effective immediately.

Before I can even process the words, another message pings on my phone. Horizon. They're pulling out too, citing a "bigger and better offer."
