Chapter 8: The Man Who Will Prosper the Marines for Five Hundred Years (Part 2)

"Let Rear Admiral Chiba in immediately."

Sengoku was all smiles. He had already heard the news earlier that morning—Chiba had consumed 1,100 pounds of food in the cafeteria. Previously, his limit had been only 500 pounds. It didn't take a genius to realize that Chiba's exercise method must have been perfected.

The guard quickly complied, and before long, Chiba entered the office, holding a stack of documents. He greeted them respectfully, "Marshal Sengoku, Vice Admiral Garp."

Even though it was common knowledge that Chiba was Garp's grandson, he still adhered to the formalities within the Marines.

"No need for formalities, Chiba. You haven't visited your grandpa's place for three months." Sengoku's eyes sparkled as he glanced at the files Chiba held, sure they contained the body training method.

Chiba smiled. "I've been busy developing the physical training method, so I haven't had time for much else. But now, I've made some progress and can finally present the results. I hope they meet Grandpa Sengoku's expectations."

Sengoku's face beamed, his grin as wide as ever. "Such a sensible and diligent young man! But remember, even while researching, you need to take care of your health. Don't overwork yourself."

"Thank you for your concern, Grandpa Sengoku. With this new training method, it won't be easy for me to exhaust myself, even if I try." Chiba handed over the documents. "This is the body training method I've developed over the past three months. It increases physical energy by up to five times. Please take a look."

"Five times the physical energy? Impressive, very impressive." Sengoku's face lit up with satisfaction.

Garp, intrigued, leaned in to take a look as well.

The physical body was the foundation for everything in combat. Armament Haki, Devil Fruit abilities, swordsmanship, the Marine Six Styles—all relied on the body's strength. However, the physical body had its limitations. After reaching a certain point, improvements became increasingly difficult.

A method that could boost physical energy fivefold meant a comprehensive enhancement in all areas.

Garp turned to Sengoku. "Sengoku, with the Marines' current advanced training method implemented last year, how much has the recruits' physical strength improved?"

Sengoku took a deep breath. "Most recruits have shown a threefold increase, and those with above-average talent have reached four times. But that's their limit; further improvement is nearly impossible."

Sengoku looked back at Chiba. "Chiba, if I assign you a batch of recruits, could you really boost their physical strength by five times?"

Chiba shook his head. "I would prefer that recruits first complete the Marine basic training regimen before practicing my Qi and body training method."

Sengoku's brow furrowed in disbelief. "Are you saying that after they've already increased their strength by three to four times, they can then enhance their cellular energy by another five times?"

Chiba nodded. "Exactly."

He explained, "The current Marine training method focuses on strengthening muscles, bones, and improving cardiopulmonary function. My Qi training works on the cellular level. Once recruits complete their initial training and improve their overall fitness, they'll have the foundation needed to practice my method efficiently."

"A recruit with basic training would have a solid foundation. Practicing the Qi method then becomes straightforward. If they fully master the Qi training, they can enhance their physical energy by up to four times, and those with exceptional talent could even reach five times."

"If they start practicing my method from the beginning without the initial Marine training, their bodies won't be strong enough to sustain long-term practice, and the benefits would diminish."

"Thus, the best approach is to follow the Marine's two-year training program first, then incorporate the Qi and body training."

"When both methods are combined, recruits could see at least a sixfold increase in physical strength, and with good talent, up to nine times."

"I've documented the full details in the file."

Sengoku and Garp exchanged glances, both taken aback by Chiba's explanation.

Sengoku quickly opened the file, scanning the dense array of thirty-six exercises, breathing techniques, and visualizations. The document explained the concept of spiritual energy present in the world and how to absorb it to strengthen the body.

Much of the information was new to Sengoku, but with his years of experience, he quickly connected the dots. He recalled instances where, during his training, he had sensed a mysterious energy enhancing his body—now he understood it was spiritual energy.

The more Sengoku read, the more fascinated he became. Previous mysteries suddenly made sense.

"So that's what spiritual energy is. It's used to nourish powerful cells… Why didn't I realize this before?"

Sengoku paused, contemplating the specific methods outlined in the document. "No, even if I had thought of it, I wouldn't have been able to harness spiritual energy to nourish cells… But this method, with its combination of movement and breathing, might work. Let's try."

Sengoku closed his eyes, positioning himself according to the instructions. He adjusted his breathing rhythmically, channeling his spiritual energy as directed. His mind focused intensely, guiding the energy through his body in a precise posture that targeted his heart cells.

He felt the spiritual energy flow from all directions, penetrating his skin, traveling through his meridians, and finally converging at his heart, slowly strengthening it.

For the first time, Sengoku felt his weary heart grow stronger. The sensation was rejuvenating, a blissful warmth filling him.

Time passed as he continued the practice, lost in the newfound energy flowing through him.

When he finally emerged from the training that evening, Sengoku felt revitalized, as if his heart had been reinvigorated. It pulsed with strength, pumping nutrients throughout his body. His mind felt clear, his body relaxed, and there was a youthful vitality in his movements.

Sengoku's eyes shone with enthusiasm. "Well, well, this method is truly incredible."

He turned to Chiba, eyes full of admiration. "You've done an outstanding job, Chiba. I never expected the Qi training method to have such miraculous effects."

"With you here, the Marines can thrive for another five hundred years!"

Sengoku gently patted Chiba's shoulder, his expression one of deep pride and relief.
