MILES

I parked outside the station, took a deep breath, and headed inside. As soon as I walked in, I asked to see Garry. He'd been expecting me and must have recognized my voice because he stepped out of his office almost immediately.

"Mr. Williams," he greeted with a nod, reaching out to shake my hand. I took it, noticing the slight look of weariness in his eyes. "You're here for her, I assume?"

I nodded, keeping my response simple. Garry motioned towards his office. "Let's have a coffee while we get her release paperwork sorted out," he suggested.

"Sounds good," I replied, and we headed in. Once inside, Garry poured us each a cup of coffee. We passed the time with small talk, topics shifting from one thing to the next, neither of us fully invested in the conversation. It was a waiting game, and we both knew it.

After what felt like half an hour, the door creaked open. Another officer stepped inside, escorting Ines.
