Chapter 95: Field Investigation [2]

"What's the case we're investigating?" Scott asked as he moved the bags that were in the back seats aside.

Stiles, with all the calm in the world, looked at a large screen next to the driver's seat and said, "This case is going to be a bit complicated because of the police involvement. The intelligence from the Association of Light is still investigating, but it's very likely that something out of the ordinary is involved. I was just informed that this case will be led by a woman who is a superintendent, and from what we know about this series of murders, there are twelve missing persons and more than ten confirmed victims."

Ethan looked at the images of the murdered women and nodded, but with some doubt, he asked, "How have they determined that this case is suitable for us hunters? As far as I know, it could just be some crazy person with mental issues responsible for these murders."

"It's not that simple." Stiles, who had been briefed on the entire case, recalled everything he knew and said, "The brutality of the murders is what has determined that we need to take responsibility."

Ethan nodded and said, "First, brief me on the cases, and I'll determine those words for myself."

In most cases, as everyone knew, these murders had nothing to do with the supernatural; many times, they were just deranged humans wreaking havoc left and right. That's why, as long as it was about normal humans, Ethan didn't want to waste time on this case when there were many others that needed his attention. This gave Scott some ideas, who was becoming more familiar with how the hunters operated.

The police exist to take care of humans, the detectives to solve these kinds of cases, and the police rapid response forces to handle them.

It's true that hunters were sent not only to solve this case but also to correctly identify it. In this aspect of the job, many times the Novice Purifiers cannot determine whether a case relates to that of an exorcist or a field agent.

This time, it was one of those cases, which is why Ethan, who was nearby, was tasked with conducting an investigation to determine whether or not they should pay attention to matters like this, perhaps even after an amateur had left the message for him.

As for the woman superintendent, things could get complicated with her because many times they are very rebellious and don't follow all the orders from their superiors, who understand what an exorcist priest does.

"Do you have any potential suspects?" Scott asked with a frown.

News of an unusual murder that coincides with a series of murders is never good news; this would cause panic among people, and most of the time, if it involved a demon, it would make it more powerful.

Many superintendents work differently, so they had to be careful to control at least the first week after the murder case.

"Now, let's focus on the chaos we're investigating and get straight to the point." Ethan tried to ignore all his thoughts and went directly to the main issue.

"On the morning of December 11th, a few hundred meters from the Juvisius Duplen restaurant, a female body was found near the road. The victim was about 24 years old, had an attractive body, and had a face that would be pleasant to most average men."

"From what could be observed, the deceased's clothes were damaged and torn, and her body was marked with what the police suspect are knives, but our investigators believe they are claws." Stiles then showed images on the tablet as he drove.

Scott nodded silently, and from what he could see, those cuts were indeed claw marks, though he wasn't sure from which specific animal, but they were not common.

"The preliminary report made by the coroner identified that the main cause of death was instant decapitation. The woman, according to the detectives in charge of the investigation, was only seen on cameras minutes before she was killed."

"Then we found the woman's head about 600 meters from a park in the middle of nowhere. The decapitated head was missing its brain, which, according to the investigation, was ripped out by a beast."

After saying this, Stiles took a deep breath and said, "The mobile phone couldn't be turned on after it broke, so we speculate that the girl was in a struggle to defend herself from her attacker."

"The phone was taken to the Crime Tech Investigation Team, and after its repair, they found the messages sent by the deceased to her boyfriend in the last moments she remained alive."

"The first message was: [Honey, it looks like there's something hidden in the bushes.] I'm scared!]"

"The second message said, [I just got closer, and it seems to be just an abandoned dog."

"Detectives visited the deceased's boyfriend, who confirmed knowing nothing about what had happened. Shortly after, he also disappeared. Currently, the police are trying to find the boyfriend as the main suspect in the murder."

"Later, there were reports of the disappearance of a young university student named Lucy Lokerman, very close to where the first murder occurred. The police speculate that there have been at least a dozen kidnappings, all of which are suspected to be injured due to the large amounts of blood found at the scene."

After Stiles finished this explanation, he parked the car on a deserted road and said, "Now we are at the crime scene of the decapitated girl; this is the first place we will investigate to determine whether our professor should be concerned or not."

Scott, with a strange expression, asked, "How can you do all this?"

"I opened my eyes; I just adapt to not die so easily," Stiles said with a calm expression.

At that moment, Ethan got out of the car, leaving his sword in the van, but he carried a pistol under his clothes, so there was no problem if something happened unexpectedly.

In his first impressions of this series of murders and disappearances, which were immediately labeled as kidnappings, he saw them as more than just a message, but as a challenge.

"What do you think, Stiles?" Ethan looked at the perimeter left by the police, so after passing it, he put on some gloves and started examining every minute detail.

When Stiles heard this question, he frowned, thought for a bit, and responded, "I think this case is not related to something supernatural, but it's also not something that regular police can solve."

The murder cases were very violent, so much so that they seemed to have been done by a beast rather than a human. But as reality surpasses fiction, Ethan didn't want to get too distracted by it.

"Try to find any detail; we might find something that the police missed," Ethan said while searching the surroundings, but at that moment, a sound was heard from the bushes.

Crack!

Ethan immediately pulled out his pistol, aimed at the bushes, and seeing that Stiles had also drawn his weapon, they advanced slowly. Once they were at an appropriate distance, he said, "If you can understand me, you need to come out of there, or we'll fill you with bullets in the next three seconds."
