Winter Wonderland

One thing I learned early on in life was that crying really didn't solve anything. In fact, it was more likely to result in a beating than fixing whatever had caused me to cry in the first place.

Alarms started to go off inside my helmet, and my exterior got hotter and hotter until I saw flames.

"Should I be worried about that?" I asked out loud. Gabriel was still trying to get me information on the planet we were landing on, but I needed to know if I was going to survive the entry in the first place.

"What?" replied Gabriel, his voice no longer in my head. Instead, it sounded like he was right beside me.

Knowing that I wasn't going through this alone, even if the other 'person' was nothing more than nanos in my bloodstream, comforted me.

"The alarms," I said, as the flashing red lights became increasingly insistent. In less than a second, everything was cut off, and it was once again silent.
