Chapter 21: Ravenclaw Common Room

"Now that everyone is full, I'd like to say a few more words before we conclude," Dumbledore announced, rising to address the audience. His voice magically amplified to reach all present.

"As the new semester begins, there are a few important reminders."

"First-year students, please remember that no one is allowed to enter the Forbidden Forest. Of course, this is a rule that even some of our older students should heed."

Dumbledore cast a deliberate glance at Gryffindor, noting the noise from the new arrivals.

"Also, Mr. Filch, the caretaker, has asked me to remind everyone not to cast spells in the corridors during class breaks."

"The Quidditch trials will take place in the second week of the semester. Any students interested in joining their house's Quidditch team should contact Madam Hooch."

This announcement instantly sparked excitement among the students. Many discussed their Quidditch skills and expressed frustration at not being on the team already.

It was clear that Quidditch was highly popular at Hogwarts.

"Lastly, I must warn you all: if you wish to avoid accidents or worse, do not enter the corridor on the right side of the fourth floor."

Ethan shook his head, realizing Dumbledore was setting a trap for You-Know-Who. This corridor must contain something significant. If the warning had not been there last year, it implied that whatever is in that corridor was a new development.

The warning would attract more than just You-Know-Who. To adventurous Gryffindors, particularly the Weasley twins, it would be seen as a challenge.

"Now, before everyone heads to bed, let us sing the school song together!" Dumbledore announced cheerfully.

The other teachers appeared less enthusiastic.

Dumbledore waved his wand, and a golden ribbon floated above the dining table, twisting into lines of text.

"Choose a tune you like."

"Ready, sing!"

The teachers and students stood up and began singing. Unfortunately, the Weasley twins chose the "Funeral March," leading to a discordant and humorous rendition.

"Freshmen, follow me, and I'll take you to the dormitory," Penelope Clearwater announced, gathering the new Ravenclaws. There were only ten first-years this year, as Ravenclaw consistently had the fewest students.

The group walked out of the Great Hall, through the long corridor, and up the steep, winding staircase that seemed endless—very much in keeping with Ravenclaw's characteristics.

The dormitories of the four houses each had their unique traits: Gryffindors with their elevated view, Slytherins in dark and damp surroundings, Hufflepuffs underground, and Ravenclaws in their airy, elevated tower.

At the end of the spiral staircase was a wooden door with no handle, only an eagle-shaped bronze knocker.

"Unlike other houses, we Ravenclaws must answer a question posed by this knocker to enter," Penelope explained. "Who wants to try?"

The first-years exchanged glances, none willing to step forward.

Even though Ravenclaws were known for their intelligence, they were reluctant to place themselves in an uncomfortable situation without fully understanding the process.

"Ethan, would you like to give it a try?" Penelope asked, noticing Ethan, who had chatted with her earlier.

Given Ethan's impressive qualities, as indicated by the Sorting Hat, he seemed like the best candidate to handle the challenge.

"Sure!" Ethan responded confidently.

He approached the door, knocking three times on the knocker. A mysterious and resonant voice asked, "What is suitable for proving the existence of something?"

"Using it!" Ethan replied firmly.

"Good answer!" the knocker responded, and the door to the common room opened.

Penelope admired Ethan's quick and accurate answer, noting that most freshmen from the previous year struggled with the question.

Entering the Ravenclaw common room, the space was circular, with dark blue carpets and a ceiling resembling a starry night. Elegant round windows adorned the walls, and blue and bronze silks hung gracefully. At the center stood a white marble statue of Rowena Ravenclaw.

The most striking feature was the extensive collection of books. Shelves lined the walls, 80% filled with books—some donated by alumni and others collected by Ravenclaw students over the years.

Once all the new students were inside, Penelope began her traditional welcome speech.

"Welcome to Ravenclaw..."

She spoke about the house's achievements, its values, and the expectations for its members.

Ethan, used to motivational speeches from his previous life, felt indifferent, but the other new students were visibly excited.

After the speech, Penelope felt relieved that the evening had gone smoothly.

Before leaving, she reminded everyone of a universal Hogwarts rule: boys are not allowed in the girls' dormitories, but girls can enter the boys' dormitories.
