42. Beedrill Strikes

Ekans' head was quickly wrapped up, looking like a mummy, and Ekans lost his eyesight. Panicking, it thrashed around wildly.

Boom! 

They accidentally collided with each other, and Ash seized the opportunity.

"Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!"

"Pika~~~chuu!!!" Pikachu dodged Koffing's Sludge attack, and a large amount of electricity burst from its cheeks.

Ekans and Koffing collided just as Pikachu released a high-voltage electric surge, hitting Ekans and transferring the current to Koffing.

Both Pokémon let out inarticulate growls simultaneously.

Boom! 

The power surged, leading to an explosion. Ekans and Koffing were charred and blackened, and the smoke blew towards Jessie and James. They collided and were knocked to the ground together.

"What are you two doing? So useless!" they grumbled in dissatisfaction from the ground.

During their first fight, they underestimated this kid, but now it was clear Ash was not easy to mess with.

"In this case, I can only rely on Meowth!" Meowth shook his head helplessly at his defeated companions, then turned and extended his claws, ready to fight.

However, as soon as he turned, he saw Ash squinting his eyes and smiling strangely at him. Meowth felt a chill down his spine and immediately hesitated.

Unconsciously, he remembered what Ash had said at the Pokémon Center in Viridian City, swallowed his fear, and was too frightened to move forward.

Buzz buzz! 

As everyone stood there awkwardly, a familiar sound echoed in their ears. The Rockets trembled.

"Damn kid, you won't be so lucky next time! We'll let you off this time!" With no other choice, recognizing the familiar sound, they quickly recalled Ekans and Koffing and ran off with Meowth.

"What are those two up to?" Misty complained.

"Something's coming!" The young boy who battled Ash, sensed it. The sound was too familiar to him, and Ash frowned in recognition.

Buzz buzz buzz!

The sound grew closer and closer, and soon countless figures sprang from the woods, their huge, shining needles and net-like wings producing an annoying buzzing sound. Scarlet eyes locked onto everyone—it was a swarm of Beedrill.

"It's the Beedrill swarm, and there are even more than before," the boy said, panic evident in his voice. He often lived in the forest and was familiar with such situations. He knew to be very careful because the Beedrill swarm was quite dangerous. Even powerful Pokémon feared them due to their sheer numbers.

"This must be because of those two Rocket members. What should we do now, Ash?" He realized that the situation had likely been provoked by Team Rocket. Despite wanting to steal Ash's Pikachu, they had fled, leaving the Beedrill enraged.

"Come on, quickly hide in my room!" the boy urged Ash and Misty.

Ash glanced at the nearby cabin. While it was questionable if the leaky cabin could withstand the furious Beedrill, it was at least some form of cover.

He quickly took out a Poké Ball, ready to recall Metapod, as Metapod couldn't handle this situation.

Buzz buzz!

The leading Beedrill had already rushed down. When Beedrill got angry, they attacked anyone in sight.

"Pikachu!"

Pikachu and Metapod were in front of Ash. Pikachu reacted quickly, jumping away. The first Beedrill missed Pikachu and headed straight for Metapod with amazing speed.

It grabbed Metapod and soared into the sky. Ash frowned, anger flashing in his eyes.

"Put down my Metapod!"

"Pidgeotto, knock it down with Quick Attack!" Enraged, Ash threw a Poké Ball into the air. Pidgeotto let out a cry, spread its wings, and flew out.

A silver flash appeared on its body, and Pidgeotto's speed was incredible. It caught up with Beedrill in an instant, striking its back.

Beedrill lost balance, its stingers loosening its grip on Metapod, who fell from the sky. Pidgeotto didn't have time to catch it, so Ash ran over immediately.

"Ash!" Misty yelled worriedly.

Ash didn't seem to hear her. He jumped high, catching the falling Metapod. Though it wasn't as exaggerated as a three-story leap, it was impressive. He landed safely, holding Metapod. Misty sighed in relief, but the young samurai shouted in panic, "Danger!!"

All the Beedrill were now attracted by Ash's actions and swarmed toward him instead of Misty and the boy.

"Pikachu!"

Seeing this, Pikachu attacked without waiting for Ash's order.

It released an electric current, hitting several Beedrill and blocking a few more. However, the power and range of the low-level Thunder Shock weren't strong enough.

"Ash!" Misty shouted in panic.

Ash glanced back, frowning. Pidgeotto was circling in the air, but it was too late to intercept.

At that moment, a growl echoed from the forest. A star emitting golden light flew out at high speed.

Bang bang bang!

It hit several Beedrill in the front row, causing an explosion that filled the air. The shockwave blew Ash back, but he managed to land safely, holding Metapod with his back to the ground.

"Is it you, Growlithe?" Ash asked.
