Chapter 60: The Black-Clad Swordsman

Chapter 60: The Black-Clad Swordsman

"Boom!!"

A beam of white light descended like a meteor, crashing into the wolf pack. The sudden attack caused the wolves to falter, as a powerful shockwave swept across the battlefield. Several black wolves, directly struck by the white light, were blown into the air, howling in agony before crashing heavily into the midst of the pack.

The bodies that had withstood arrows and spears without a scratch now seemed as fragile as parchment. Even before they hit the ground, the sword energy that exploded outward had torn them into pieces, leaving only a bloody mist.

This sudden scene left both the wolves and the soldiers on the walls stunned. They all turned to look at the source of the light. To their astonishment, they saw a young man dressed in black slowly rising from the light.

His right hand gripped a longsword that radiated pure light, which he pointed directly at the wolf pack. His entire demeanor was as resolute as a sharp blade.

In front of this young man, the wolves hesitated for a second before roaring in fury and turning to charge at the intruder. The bloodlust had awakened their primal instincts, and this human who attacked them had now become the target they had to destroy.

But so what?

Alex raised his head, looking at the approaching wolves. For an ordinary person, the sight of over a hundred black wolves charging at them might be enough to make them wet their pants. But for Alex, who had commanded an army of Zerg, these mere hundred or so black wolves were nothing.

As the wolves charged, Alex simply tightened his grip on the Broken Sky Sword and swung it forward.

A dazzling light condensed into a silver line, slicing through the air. Several cross-shaped holy symbols appeared in front of the black wolves, and then they exploded!

"Boom! Boom! Boom!!"

A series of explosions caught the charging black wolves off guard. Their tough hides, which could shrug off iron swords and arrows, were no match for the powerful and holy light.

Not to mention, Alex's power had recently risen from E to D. Killing a bear with a single punch was no joke!

Under the Crusader's strike, the vanguard of the black wolves crumbled as if they had run headlong into an invisible wall. Alex, not pausing after his successful strike, fixed his gaze on the remaining wolves, raised his longsword, and swung again!

As he lifted his sword, the Broken Sky Sword in his hand began to tremble slightly. When Alex slashed forward, the holy light attached to the blade split into several bands of light, fanning out and shredding the black wolves that couldn't evade in time.

They were torn into bloody pieces.

"Awooo!!"

Seeing the severe losses among its pack, the alpha wolf on the hill howled once more. Hearing its call, the advancing wolf pack suddenly halted. Then, two groups of black wolves split off to the left and right, flanking Alex from both sides.

The wolves moved with incredible speed. Before Alex could withdraw his sword, they had already encircled him completely!

"Watch out!!"

Seeing this, Clark and the others felt their hearts leap into their throats. They hadn't expected the black wolves to be so cunning. Now, the young man was completely surrounded.

Even if he had three heads and six arms, he would be hard-pressed to fend off attacks from all directions. Especially since the leading black wolves had already opened their mouths, dark energy swirling within, ready to unleash their chaos-infused flames...

But to Alex, this was no big deal.

He could feel the thick, chaotic magic gathering in the air. Magical beasts were called such because they could manipulate this power. Earlier, Alex's swift attack had caught them off guard, but now, the wolves had clearly figured out how to deal with their prey.

Yet Alex wasn't without options.

The black wolves had already closed in within five yards of him. They bared their fangs, and sparks began to spew from their mouths and noses. Given a bit more time, they would unleash their flames and completely incinerate their target.

From the soldiers' perspective, they saw the young man standing still. Then, he flipped his sword and thrust it into the ground.

The next moment, a miracle occurred.

Suddenly, a brilliant holy light erupted from the ground around Alex, as if breaking free from the earth itself. The black wolves that entered the range of the holy light immediately screamed in agony.

Their massive, dark bodies began to burn, engulfed by the relentless white flames that spread and consumed them.

At that moment, the wolf pack finally halted. They let out terrified cries, instinctively backing away from the area infused with holy power. Despite being magical beasts tainted by chaotic energy, they were still animals.

Although they could breathe fire, it didn't mean they were immune to flames—especially not flames imbued with divine power.

"Awooo... Awooo!!"

Seeing this, the alpha wolf finally showed signs of unease. It paced nervously on the hillside before seeming to make a decision and howled once more. Upon hearing its howl, the black wolves, which had been unsettled by the holy flames, quickly regained their composure.

They began regrouping and, once again, charged forward recklessly.

"You can't take them head-on!!"

Watching the scene unfold, Clark frowned and shouted loudly at the young man below. "The black wolves won't retreat unless you kill the alpha wolf. They'll fight to the death!"

The alpha wolf.

Hearing Clark's shout, Alex frowned slightly. He quickly lifted his head, scanning the area. It didn't take long for him to lock onto the massive shadow on the hillside behind the pack.

The alpha wolf, sensing Alex's attention, immediately turned its head, its red eyes glaring at him with a mix of madness and fury.

Although to Alex, these black wolves were merely fodder, anything that could save time was worth considering. With this thought, Alex's lips curled into a faint smile. It was about time to test that move.

Gripping his longsword tightly, Alex prepared himself.

Clark couldn't understand what he was seeing. He watched as the young man raised his sword, appearing to make a charging motion toward the wolves. But before the sword could swing down, the next moment, the young man suddenly vanished from sight.

Clark didn't even know how Alex disappeared. It felt as if he had just blinked, and the young man who had been standing there was suddenly gone. He rubbed his eyes, scanning the area again, and finally found Alex's figure.

He was now standing motionless behind the massive alpha wolf.

How did that young man get there?

"Swish—"

The Skybreaker Sword sliced through the air, a spray of blood following its path. Alex glanced at the alpha wolf beside him, then sheathed his sword.

"Click."

As the longsword slid into its scabbard, the alpha wolf finally reacted. Its head tilted slightly before falling with a "thud" to the ground. Blood gushed from its neck, staining the white snow red. The body of the alpha wolf then slumped over, lifeless.

What just happened?

Clark's eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't comprehend what he had just witnessed. The alpha wolf had been killed so easily? Wait, what about the rest of the wolves?

With that thought, Clark quickly turned his head toward the wolf pack near the walls. To his astonishment, he found that the black wolves were standing still, like statues.

They seemed to have been frozen by the cold wind, turned into icy sculptures, or perhaps suspended in time, completely immobilized.

Then, time began to flow again.

Countless brilliant blades of light suddenly bloomed like lotuses, completely engulfing the dark beasts.
