partially dead

Ezra stood facing Karanaki, his entire body covered in blood. He was cut up really badly, and his hands could barely hold his scythe.

"What drives you, Ezra? What makes you go this far? No normal person would fight against such impossible odds, yet you come at me like you think you can win," Karanaki asked Ezra.

"What drives me?" Ezra asked. He made shadow tendrils wrap around his arm to support his grip.

"My driving force is nothing special; it isn't something grand like being a hero or a villain. All I want is to ensure that I am never used again," Ezra said, gripping his scythe, ready to attack again.

"And for that cause, you are ready to throw away your life? You refuse to beg and bow. Sometimes being a coward is the right thing, Ezra. Your life is more important than any self-made promise. Don't you value your life?" Karanaki asked.
