What Jayce Wants

"Brother! You're here!"

As the morning followed, Jayce, who had just woke up from his sleep, was surprised to see his Brother inside the hospital room.

It was still early in the morning and Red barely had any sleep. Hearing a cheerful shout, Red slowly opened his eyes. Despite wanting to just continue sleeping, Red still warmly smiled at Jayce.

"Good morning," Red's voice was hoarse.

Lying down on a small couch that couldn't even fit his body properly, Red turned sideways. He faced Jayce, who was sitting on the hospital bed.

Jay was smiling in all ears after seeing his older brother. He thought that Red wouldn't come and visit him this week as he didn't come yesterday.

"I thought you were busy working, Brother!" Jayce exclaimed. The tone of his voice was a mixture of happiness and confusion.

"I had a lot of spare time today so I went here," Red answered with a bright smile on his face to ease Jayce's confusion.

Jayce's face brightened upon hearing it. He sat energetically and clapped his hands.

"Go out with me, Brother! Let's go to a park near the hospital." Jayce muttered as if he didn't have any sickness.

"Jayce…" Red looked at Jayce in disapproval.

"The doctor told me that I could go out of the hospital, Brother." Jayce's finger fidgeted as he noticed the look that Red had been giving him.

Hearing how Jayce's voice turned from a cheerful to a low one, Red took a deep breath. He slowly nodded before putting back a smile on his face.

"I will ask Mom and Dad about it first, okay?" Red muttered softly, trying to console Jayce who became downhearted.

"Really, Brother?" Jayce raised his head up. He looked at Red, doubt was written on hsi eyes.

Red slowly nodded. He raised his hands and showed his pinky finger. "I promise."

As if it was a sacred sign, Jayce smiled in triumph. He knew that his brother wasn't lying to him.

Jayce happily sat on the bed. His back was against the soft headboard of the hospital bed.

It felt somehow odd, but Jayce felt he was full of energy today. It was as if, his sickness that caused him to get easily tired and all, just suddenly disappeared.

'Is this a sign that I'm getting better already?' Hope filled Jayce's heart as he thought about it.

Jayce imagined all the things he could do once he was out of the hospital. He will get to do the things he had been doing before.

Go to school, play, and spend some time outside.

He will also get to explore places and live a normal life! Something that he hasn't experienced after for so long.

However, the most important thing out of all was that he could finally tell his brother to go back to the professional scene and play again!

As Red sat down on the couch, his gaze hadn't left Jayce. "You seemed so happy, Jayce," he pointed it out.

Jayce slowly nodded. "Of course, Brother! If Mom and Dad will allow it, then I would get the chance to walk around once again!"

Red chuckled after hearing the enthusiasm and excitement in Jayce's voice. "But you can't walk for so long. Your body is still weak."

Jayce shook his head, disagreeing. Raising two of his hands midair, "I'm very strong, Brother!" he waved it side by side.

"Jayce," Red's eyes widened in worry after watching Jayce's sudden action.

He quickly stood up and went in front of him, making sure that all the wires connected to Jayce's hands were fine.

Jayce made a face, looking at the worried face of his brother. He chuckled and hugged Red's side to avoid getting scolded.

"I know, brother. I'm sorry." Jayce apologized already before he could even get scolded.

Red tilted his head to the side. He took a deep sigh as Jayce gave him an expression that he couldn't afford to scold.

With closed eyes, Red just nodded. However, in order to get back, of course, he needed to do a little teasing too.

"Because of that, we won't go out anymore."

"Brother!" Jayce quickly contested.

Red chuckled, when suddenly, their situation turned around.

Placing his hand on Jayce's head, he slightly patted it.

"How about you eat your food now, Young Sir as we wait for Mom to come back?" Red's eyebrows rose up as he looked at Jayce.

Jayce, pouting, slowly nodded his head. His eyes flew to the side as he watched how Red pushed the movable table to his front.

Red and Jayce both waited for their parents to come back after visiting their house for a while. As they arrived in the room, Jayce immediately greeted his parents in a loud and cheerful voice.

Red just shook his head, knowing that Jayce was doing it on purpose.

Different from Jayce, Red just greeted his parents calmly.

"Mom, Dad, the doctor told me yesterday that I can go out, right?" Starting the topic, Jayce looked at his parents with pleading eyes.

"Uhm…"

"Ah…"

Eniah and Jakob looked at each other in uncertainty. Even though the doctor really told them that yesterday, they were still hesitant about it.

"Jayce…" Eniah walked towards Jayce. She sat at the side of the bed, beside him.

"Please, Mom?" Jayce looked at Eniah with a sad expression on his face. He put his hands on top of her hand and weakly shake it.

Eniah slowly turned her head away. Her heart chest tightened. She couldn't afford to look at Jayce's pleading gaze.

"Can we just do that once we're sure that you're okay already?"

"J-Just this once, Mom…." Jayce's stuttered. "After this, I won't go out again. I-I just really miss stepping outside."

Eniah's heart was shattered into pieces as she heard how Jayce's voice broke. She gazed over her shoulder and saw her husband, Jakob looking at her.

She looked at Jakob in fear. She did not know what to do. Despite all of that, Jakob smiled and nodded.

"It's fine, Eniah. We'll be there."

Taking a deep breath, Eniah forced a smile on her face.

She felt uneasy and worried about it, but knowing that Jayce must have really wanted this, she slowly nodded her head.

She glanced at Red, who was also waiting for her decision, before fixing his gaze back at Jayce.

"Since you want to go out, then we'll go out as a family," Eniah answered that put a smile on everyone's face.

Jayce's heart skipped a beat after hearing the answer. He thought that his mother wouldn't allow it.

Jayce's face lit up as a bright and a huge smile appeared on his lips.

"Yayy!"
