This chapter contains no dialogue; it is more about a compilation of what Azrael has done in the Red Desert. In the next one, you will see the motivation behind the movements of certain people shown in this chapter.
~~~Third person, first-second moon, 277 AC~~~
~~~Great Red Desert~~~
While Zoila and Varys were at King's Landing approving trade ties between Xandar and The Seven Kingdoms, in Essos, Azrael had immersed himself in changing the terrain of the Great Red Desert to an extent never before seen.
First, he began to change all the dunes and saline peaks to lush green meadows full of fertile and moist soil. At the same time, he created lakes and bogs with the help of the water buckets from the menu so that fresh and drinkable water would never run out, at least until such water origins were destroyed. As yet, after several experiments, Azrael was the only one capable of doing so.
Because even if sand, rock, or dirt were poured over the water monolith, it would just seep over whatever was placed on it, even over bedrock. What was once an endless desert of dunes, sand, and dry, arid land has become a meadow with heavy vegetation and lush trees everywhere.
Also, the ancient city of Vaes Tolorro had been destroyed and lost forever in the annals of time. After the unsullied Port Royal arrived, the primates that inhabited the city's cave had become a whole system of caverns that stretched for thousands.
In addition to the large clearing where the dragon bones had been found, along with that of an entire army, more and more bones were found as the unsullied explored the caves.
Initially thought to be an immense cave system, the place ended up being a giant subway city in ruins, inhabited by thousands of the primates Azrael and his group had first encountered.
Although the city seemed to be in ruins, it was in such good condition, thanks to the material it was built with, a strong black rock, that even Azrael, with the help of his sword, only managed to break a wall of the stone after several attempts.
Such was the level of resistance of the material that entire houses were in vertical form, giving the understanding that the house was on the surface, and when it was swallowed by the sand, it was not destroyed, but it was swallowed in one piece. The city as a whole, for unknown reasons, was swallowed by the sand and submerged, remaining underground for countless years.
This had made Azrael very thoughtful since everything pointed to the fact that a very strange and malevolent event had occurred in this place. In addition, it was very hot in certain parts, and lava gushed out in certain places, keeping the atmosphere smoky and cloudy.
In a sense, this city was much like what had happened in the Valyria peninsula, adding more mystery and mysticism to the already strange scene, especially since the rider, his dragon, and his army had died fighting for what was believed to be their city. Ending in the deaths of all of them.
However, the discovery that completely changed the game was the inside of the dragon's bones. After being removed and taken to Xandar for the witches to investigate, the inside revealed that several chests were under the mound of dragon bones.
The chests contained cloth corroded by time, contraptions made of Valyrian steel, jewelry, and coins of unknown origin, as well as weapons and arrows already worn out. But without a doubt, Azrael's eyes sparkled when one of the unsullied came to him with a small but peculiar chest made entirely of Valyrian steel and decorated with gold and jade.
Once the chest was opened, its interior was revealed. It contained four oversized 'stones' inside—dragon eggs.
Petrified after years of remaining in the cold conditions of their sojourn for an unknown amount of years.
Still, even if the eggs were turned to stone, their discovery was worth gold, especially since Azrael knew that Daenerys' eggs had initially been turned to stone and that during the pyre she had made for her husband and son, including the witch Mirri, she had unknowingly created a ritual that had managed to bring the eggs to life while protecting her from being burned by the fire of the pyre.
So, in an urgent measure, Azrael had the eggs sent to the Arcane Center as soon as possible so that the witches could investigate and see if there was a way to bring them to life.
After that, and an exhaustive search of most of the cave system, where no more eggs could be found, Azrael decided to abandon the search and fill the entire cave system with stone. At the same time, he made the city disappear over the caves with the help of the structure block.
It was days later that Azrael built his second city in Planetos, right on the place where Vaes Tolorro was located before. The new town, the size of a quarter of Xandar, was made for its inhabitants to be dedicated to agriculture since the city was built by Azrael, thinking of an official establishment where all the farmers and agriculturists who would be in charge of sowing what used to be the red desert would have a city to call home.
The city was renamed Tavalar. It was planned to be as self-sufficient as possible, and a road like the one Xandar had was created, making the three Xandarian cities interconnected.
Thus, after a month of intense work on Azrael's part, he only rested at night, meeting with his friends, blood brothers who had come from Xandar, and even with Isabella, who had been very close to the group. The bad news came.
And that is, although Azrael had changed the topography of most of the red desert, he had not approached the destroyed city of Vaes Qhosar, originally called Qolahn, since Azrael wanted to follow the foot of the Bone Mountains and pass it north of Vaes Qhosar and Qharkash, the latter being under Qarth's power.
This would protect the entire western border of Xandar with the monumental range of bones, and only the passage of the three safe passes of Kayakayanaya, Samyriana, and Bayasabhad would need to be controlled.
However, pressing news had come from the south, notifying that the city of Port Royal was under attack by land and sea—from both Qarth by water and Qharkash by land. But that was not all, since Yi Ti was also helping the invading side.
This immediately enraged Azrael, who ordered to notify all of Xandar that they had gone to war against Qarth and Yi Ti since that day, calling all the unsullied legions, the undying horde, and the airborne Wyverns. At the same time, Azrael took flight in Endoxes to break the armies that besieged Port Royal while the armies prepared themselves.
After that, Azrael took flight, urging Endoxes to make an effort and get there as quickly as possible. Although the city had a high and strong wall, its protection from within was weak, in part because the two legions of four thousand unsullied were in Tavalar assisting in the efforts of apprehension and relocation of the primates, leaving the city with only a handful of fifteen hundred unsullied.
When he arrived in the city, the defensive force was doing its best to defend itself and stop raids on the walls, fighting a massive army outside the city walls.
Quickly, over fifteen thousand men were carrying unknown banners, with Azrael identifying some and not others. That didn't matter to Azrael, however, as he ordered Endoxes to descend from the clouds and break the siege.
Immediately, Endoxes obeyed and swooped down, dropping his massive body and spraying his strange purple lightning breath, which broke the siege and caused Qharkash's forces to panic and lose their cool.
For his part, Endoxes enjoyed the sensation of murdering people, and without needing orders from Azrael, he continued to murder every soldier in the camp, dyeing it red and black. After taking care of the ground forces, Endoxes flew with Azrael to the bay, destroying all the ships that sought to reach the coast and harass the city from the south coast.
At the end of the engagement, it resulted in a complete slaughter, with all the invading forces annihilated and the Endoxes bitter that there were no more enemies to kill. Still, the conflict had begun, and Qarth and Yi Ti had tickled the sleeping dragon.
