His brother-in-law? Why would he do that? What was his goal? He was going to leave him alone, but it seems that the man is trying him. But Javier is not sure how much he can trust what she says. 

"Are you saying the truth?" he asked, suspicion etched in his voice. 

"I am being honest," she insisted, her eyes wide with fear. "Javier, he threatened my life and my family. I was so scared." She approached him and took his hands. 

Javier glared at her, then pushed her away from him. A loud knock on the door startled them both. They turned to face the door. "Do you have a guest?" he asked. 

"No, I don't have any guests," she replied, her voice shaky. "Let me check," she said, moving towards the door. 

Helen opened the door to find police officers standing there. She was taken aback. "How may I help you?" 

"Are you alright?" one officer asked, trying to peer inside. "We heard Javier is in here; please let us in."
