Chapter 390: New Identity

After weeks of discussion and the hands-on practice of several archmages led by Antonidas, the Kirin Tor Council finally announced that in a vote among the mages' guild, 80% of the mages agreed to pass the proposal in Alaric now known as Mage Maverick Sandor's paper.

On Whether Transmutation Magic Belongs to the School of Transformation Magic: A New Framework for Transmutation Magic, to alter the existing theoretical foundation of magic. Less than 10% of the mages expressed opposition.

In other words, the nine schools of arcane magic have effectively become ten, and the mages of Dalaran have new magic to learn.

This is a significant development for the mages.

It's akin to how a new branch of quantum mechanics suddenly emerged in physics, or how computer science appeared in engineering. 

While ordinary people might not feel much of a difference, for mages, this represents a monumental change.

Amidst this transformation, Alaric, who proposed this theory and built the framework for the school of transmutation magic single-handedly, undoubtedly became a prominent figure in Dalaran, recognized as the master of transmutation by his peers.

In the following two months, he was showered with flowers and applause, especially after being awarded the prestigious Kirin Tor's Sash of Supreme Wisdom and the title of archmage, elevating his status to new heights.

Numerous apprentices wished to study under him, countless mages sought friendship with him, and many salons and guilds hoped to recruit him as a member.

He even received invitations to become the chief court mage of the Kingdom of Alterac and the Kingdom of Gilneas.

Although all of this was quite bothersome, he was somewhat prepared for it.

After all, in the Harry Potter world, after defeating Voldemort, he was inundated with similar invitations for a considerable time and had to spend several days each year participating in gatherings among academic masters until before his travel.

Now, it was the same, only with many more notable figures to deal with.

In fact, he did become quite good friends with some of them.

For instance, Kael'thas, though appearing very proud, was actually a kind-hearted person. He was humble, eager to help, and an excellent listener. Most high elves believed Kael'thas would grow into an outstanding king.

However, Alaric felt that this elven prince was too kind-hearted and somewhat indecisive, yet stubborn at critical moments. 

These qualities were not what one would expect from a future leader of his race. In the original plot, under Kael'thas's leadership, the high elves faced a tragic end.

But this was not surprising. Compared to the treacherous and competitive human society, the high elves lived much more comfortably and leisurely. 

Therefore, their politics were not as complicated as those of humans, even considered relatively simple. 

Moreover, since defeating the Amani trolls, Quel'Thalas had enjoyed a long period of peace, making it understandable to cultivate such a successor.

If peace continued, perhaps Kael'thas could become a great king. However...

In terms of magic, Kael'thas inherited the bloodline of the Sunstrider family and was quite adept at fire magic within the school of elemental manipulation.

Alaric's other friend, Krasus, who disguised himself as a high elf, had a different reason for befriending Alaric.

Though Krasus was unlike other dragons and had a unique fondness for mortals, eagerly blending in among them for observation, his innate pride as a dragon made it difficult for him to befriend others.

Yet Alaric was an exception. After conversing with Alaric, Krasus unexpectedly found that he not only didn't look down on this young man as he would with others, but instead felt a unique admiration, even respect—he was unaware that this stemmed from Alaric's mastery of dragon powers.

Beyond interpersonal relationships, the greatest advantage of Alaric becoming an archmage was that Dalaran was virtually open to him.

In the library of the Violet Citadel, he could browse at will, and he could freely access the public laboratories and classrooms. He had leaped to become one of the highest authorities in Dalaran.

What he had to give in return was to teach the newly emerged transmutation magic to other mages while continually researching in this field.

In earthly terms, it was akin to being a top professor at a university, enjoying not only generous compensation and a relaxed academic workload but also having the power to participate in university administration.

With such favorable conditions, Alaric fully utilized every moment. Aside from teaching a public class each week and giving some guidance to recommended mage apprentices, he devoted all his time to the library and laboratories, eagerly absorbing the magical knowledge of this world like a sponge soaking up water.

During this time, his magical artifact—the Ravenclaw diadem—played a huge role. 

The wisdom buff of the diadem, along with its spirit, Helena, who was in sync with him, multiplied his already exceptional learning abilities. 

Soon, his proficiency in the nine schools of arcane magic (excluding transmutation) surpassed that of most mages, earning him the admiration of those familiar with him, who referred to him as a monster.

During this period, he also audited several sessions of the Kirin Tor's six-man council and larger meetings but never voiced his opinions in these administrative discussions.

These meetings mainly dealt with trivial matters concerning Dalaran, such as a mage being reported for summoning strange creatures or a potion spill causing serious consequences...

Of course, there was one matter he was quite familiar with that occurred under the decisions of the Kirin Tor council.

A mage apprentice named Khadgar was decided to be assigned to this generation's Tirisfal Guardian, the astral mage Medivh, as his apprentice.

Upon hearing this news, Alaric knew that the wheels of fate had finally begun to turn.
