With a thunderous sound, the sky changed color to a deep emerald, this happened in ten cities around the world.
From the sky descended an alien race with terrifying appearances and weapons straight out of a science fiction movie. People screamed in panic and started running; it was the most natural response to something like this.
...
Despite the resemblance to a movie, the invasion wasn't as foolish as Hollywood often portrays.
"They," known as the Chitauri race, wouldn't be an advanced race if they didn't have basic knowledge of strategy and capable leaders.
In a way, this could be seen as a blessing; they didn't attack unarmed civilians and focused only on law enforcement and anyone who resisted.
In New York, they used standard flash invasion tactics.
Several capsules fell from the sky in various parts of New York; upon landing, large black antennas rose, designed to block all possible communication.
They also deployed several squads of drones that typically travel in groups, giving the impression of an insect swarm; these were sent to defend the antennas.
Another group of Chitauri in optical camouflage suits took charge of attacking power stations and electrical plants.
With no communication and no resources... Furthermore, Chitauri warriors fiercely attacked law enforcement. They knew what they were doing and when they struck they struck hard.
...
"Captain, we can't stop them!"
An officer shouted from behind a barricade; there were hundreds of precincts and stations in New York, and all were under attack.
Gwen's father was also in a similar situation; the entire building was surrounded by Chitauri on the ground and in the air, and they were being attacked from all sides with laser weapons.
"We must hold them off!" George shouted as he fired at a Chitauri; its armor blocked several shots, but bullets found exposed areas, and the alien shrieked before falling to the ground.
"Do we still have reinforcements?" George asked an officer beside him; his attention shifted around, seeing several officers being tended to, others lying motionless after being hit by laser fire.
"Captain, Precinct 70 in Brooklyn has over 300 officers... they will hold for now."
"Precinct 25 is not responding..."
"The Detective Bureau in Manhattan is requesting support!"
"The Special Emergency Unit in Queens says they won't hold out much longer!"
George gritted his teeth upon hearing the situation; it wasn't the time to worry about anything else; everyone was in the same situation. The only glimmer of hope they had was that the invaders were only attacking law enforcement for now.
George could focus on holding out until the military arrived, knowing his daughter and wife would be safe.
"Captain..."
George snapped out of his thoughts and saw his friends, colleagues, and subordinates with grim faces and desperate looks.
No one could blame them; no one ever imagined that one day out of nowhere, a space portal would open in the sky, and millions of aliens would appear in spaceships.
"What's going on?!" George yelled at the top of his lungs while continuing to fire. "It's awful, I know! I'd rather be at home with my daughter and wife. Everyone here has families, friends, and loved ones waiting for them, but think of it this way—these bastards aren't there with them as long as they're with us!"
The officers realized the harsh reality; this was an invasion, and once they were dealt with, the civilian population would be next.
"Damn oversized insects!"
A huge officer, as big as a bull, stood up with two M4s to fire in a rage and adrenaline-fueled attack.
"Idiot!!"
George jumped on him before he could have his head blown off by laser fire. Once on the ground, George scolded the officer.
"This isn't a damn Rambo or Star Wars movie; they have accuracy, and if you stick your head out like that, they'll blow it off!"
"Sorry, Captain, I got carried away..."
George sighed; at least they were motivated. He discreetly placed his hand on his side; he could feel the burned fabric, but there was no pain. At first, he thought it was for the adrenaline, but then he noticed he had no wounds on his torso.
George frowned, 'I'm sure they hit me...'
He regularly attends church, but he's not so naive as to think his faith would stop a bullet. Unbeknownst to George, there was something small in his pocket that was blinking with a golden light.
'Never mind, I just hope to have the same luck until this ends. Otherwise, Allen, take care of my daughter and wife...'
Despite his motivational words, George was realistic and knew the situation was dire; at any moment, a laser shot could pierce his head.
*Boom*
"What?!"
Just when the situation seemed at a standstill, a capsule fell from the sky and landed in front of the precinct.
It resembled a drill that had fallen from the sky; for a moment, the shots ceased, and everyone remained expectant.
The wait ended quickly with the sound of a release of steam as the capsule's locks popped open with a metallic sound.
The capsule opened before everyone's stunned gaze. A massive Chitauri emerged from it, clad in thick full-body armor and wielding a weapon resembling a pillar. George aimed and fired, and others did too, but the bullets couldn't penetrate it.
The giant took the pillar and rested it on his shoulder; it opened, and the tip lit up.
"Everyone, run!!"
George may not know what that thing on the alien's shoulder was, but he could sense it was about to fire.
"Damn it!"
All seemed lost but before he fired the place where the Chitauri was exploded, as the dust cleared George saw how the monster had been blown to pieces.
...
Chitauri vehicles resembling flying motorcycles with two warriors each spiraled around the precincts. It was almost mocking, as most Chitauri weren't actively participating in the attack; they were waiting for the human response.
An explosion took them by surprise, then they watched as an elite Chitauri genetically modified to be a super version of a Chitauri was blown to pieces before their eyes.
"Well, that was quick."
Behind a Chitauri pilot, Rebecca sat; the original copilot was now on the ground.
The Chitauri pilot turned only to meet the barrel of a shotgun, a shot that destroyed the invader's head... the formation broke.
"HAHAHA, that's how I like it!" Rebecca took control of the vehicle and crashed it into another. Before the explosion, Rebecca flipped the middle finger and vanished.
When Rebecca reappeared, she had two light machine guns in her hands; she fired from atop a building. The bullets began to curve and track the Chitauri; it was like witnessing the effect of a special ability, but it wasn't.
Such cyberpunk smart weapons had that feature. As Rebecca took down vehicle after vehicle, ground help arrived with soldier trucks and SHIELD vans.
Something akin to a war erupted in New York.
Helicopters against Chitauri ships were everywhere.
Rebecca grabbed several alien weapons; they had a biometric lock that prevented use by anyone who wasn't a Chitauri. Rebecca smiled and pulled a cable from her neck to connect with the weapon and hack it, which she accomplished quickly.
After that, Rebecca's laughter and multiple laser shots were all that could be heard.
George and the surviving officers emerged from the precinct and also aided in the counterattack.
...
Steve Rogers arrived at the center of Manhattan surrounded by soldiers who looked at him, awaiting his orders. It had been a short time since he arrived in this world, and although Fury had tried to make him as comfortable as possible, this wasn't his era.
But seeing the soldiers look at him with admiration, respect, and expectation, Steve felt at home.
"The world changes, but war doesn't."
Steve smiled and began dividing the soldiers into squads to assist civilians and counterattack.
"Let's show these guys what happens when you invade our world!"
The cheer echoed through several streets; simultaneously, a second wave of Chitauri warriors arrived.
A gigantic Leviathan observed the soldiers and prepared to attack them. The Leviathan descended from the sky between the buildings, but at that moment, a web adhered to its body, then another, and another.
MJ and Gwen pulled with all their strength and suspended the monster in the air. Natasha climbed from a building (she also had spider powers).
She had the railgun in her possession aimed at the motionless monster's head and fired, causing a large part of its head to explode.
Gwen averted her gaze in disgust, and MJ felt queasy at the sight. The monster lost its ability to fly and began to fall; Gwen wrapped it in webs and left it hanging from the building.
Gwen wanted to run to help her father, but her strength was needed to deal with the Leviathans, so Rebecca offered to assist Gwen's father.
Gwen hesitated, but Rebecca smiled and told her not to worry—they were practically family. Gwen blushed at such a statement and accepted.
The girls, soldiers, Steve, Shield agents, and several citizens who decided to defend their homes with their weapons turned the tide in their favor.
Unfortunately, there seemed to be no end to the enemies as they emerged from the portal...
The battle seemed endless with casualties on both sides, mostly Chitauri losses, but the number of enemies didn't seem to diminish, which filled them with despair.
...
"We must do something that portal is a free pass to enter our world," murmured MJ as she finished securing a dead Leviathan so it wouldn't fall to the street.
Gwen gazed at the sky, also feeling like they were losing in this war of attrition. Nevertheless, far from worrying, Gwen smiled in response."He said he'd take care of it, and I believe him," Gwen crossing her arms, hanging upside down.
MJ chuckled. "Hee hee, me too."
*Roar*
In the distance, five more Leviathans were descending from the sky.
Natasha aimed her railgun to take down one. However, it split in half out of nowhere. Another Leviathan roared in agony before being sliced.
Natasha smiled, shaking her head as she lowered her weapon. Behind her, 2B landed gracefully, holding her katana.
"If you had helped us from the beginning, it wouldn't be so difficult to deal with these flying monsters."
Natasha complained without genuine anger. 2B remained silent momentarily before responding.
"Only up to this moment, master told me to come and help, and he would deal with the rest..."
Natasha sensed hesitation in 2B's words as if she were hiding something. She checked Allen's stream, which showed various invasions, but Allen himself never appeared.
"All right, you don't have to worry, I won't push for more information," Natasha said.
2B remained expressionless under Natasha's suspicious gaze but relaxed slightly when she wasn't pressed further for information. Natasha sighed and looked at the emerald sky. In the end, she decided to trust Allen; he must have his reasons.
*BREAK*
A deafening sound stunned humans and Chitauri alike, the sky turned purple, and the portal collapsed. This sudden turn of events left people struggling to keep up.
"No time to hesitate, attack!" shouted Captain America as he leaped into the midst of several Chitauri and slammed them with his shield.
After a moment the humans came out of the daze faster than the Chitauri. There was no reason to doubt that the portal had collapsed thanks to Allen.
The Chitauri broke formations upon losing contact with their command center, allowing the defenders to take the offensive.
The humans increased their spirit as the Chitauri fell into chaos.
Soldiers fired with machine guns and tanks at the ships now flying erratically.
Rebecca also observed this, holding her pink and green shotgun behind her head as she stood atop a pile of elite Chitauri warriors.
"What the hell?!"
...
Spider-Gwen and Spinneret stopped their actions mid-swing. They didn't need much thought to know this was Allen's doing. The girls felt the urge to go see Allen, but they had things to take care of.
Even without the portal, there were still many enemies in the city.
...
News quickly spread that the New York portal had been destroyed. In other cities under invasion, they began receiving assistance from the military. However, little could be done to assist Thor, Hulk, Diana, Kara, Tony, Carol, and Artoria, even Donna and Starfire had everything under control.
This was also because the invasion focused primarily on New York, where the intensity of the invasion was doubled.
Thor remained in the sky, sensing the change in the atmosphere after the ground shook and one of the portals was destroyed.
"Loki..."
Thor closed his eyes, his expression shifting from anger to melancholy. He could make a thousand excuses, but Loki was still his brother.
"Perhaps if I had realized your pain, I could have prevented this fate. Unfortunately, I too have my flaws."
Thor was narcissistic, arrogant, and self-centered; he didn't think about the consequences of his actions, which led to him being stripped of his powers once by his father. The old Thor wasn't someone who could help Loki.
No, Thor understood that part of the blame for Loki becoming like this was his own.
Thor looked at the sky, still emerald but covered with storm clouds.
"Brother, we're no longer children. We can't escape our deeds..."
Thor took his hammer and unleashed a terrible attack, incinerating thousands of Chitauri in the sky and several Leviathans. It was as if he unleashed his anger and frustration on his enemies.
...
Allen walked through the sky, attacked from all directions by Loki but did not get hurt.
It was unfortunate for Loki, but he couldn't grasp how strong Allen had become. If it weren't for the Infinity Stones, Loki would have died multiple times over by now.
Allen was like the Shaggy meme—only using 0.01% of his power. It wasn't an exaggeration to say that Allen could glance at the Earth and make it explode. So Allen was more concerned with containing his power than defeating Loki.
[Host, you shouldn't have used the Destruction Core,]
"Yeah..." Allen said through clenched teeth. He had let his anger get the best of him, and indeed, Loki was powerful, but not to the extent that required so much power.
Loki continued attacking as Allen tried to catch him, just once, just a touch, just a blow. Even if Allen managed to graze Loki's body, he would die. That's how wide the gap between them was.
Loki had to endure the sweat of being on the verge of death while thinking about how to harm Allen.
"Damn it!"
It was unfair to the point of being desperate, but Loki couldn't blame anyone. It was he who came to Earth and wanted to conquer it, he who believed his power would be enough.
Allen disappeared and appeared to stab Loki in the chest, but it was an illusion.
"How many times will you fall for the same trick, mortal?" Loki laughed, though he felt chills inside.
Allen remained coldly focused on Loki; he wasn't in the mood to exchange words with the god.
Everything seemed at a standstill, but this was destined to end. While Allen had a time limit on his abilities, Loki was in a worse situation, straining to control two Infinity Stones but not without paying a price.
Loki's face grew paler. The outcome was inevitable...
"Mortal, I—"
"I've seen enough..." A deep voice interrupted Loki and Allen, and suddenly, Loki was impaled from behind by a blade.
Allen watched as a portal opened behind Loki, using the power of the Tesseract that was supposed to be under his control.
"You didn't think I would give you two stones without being able to retrieve them whenever I wanted... god."
Allen adjusted his guard. This wasn't Loki's illusion, as he could feel the chills from the other side of the portal, it was the same sensation Darkseid gave him when using the Anti-Life Equation.
"Who are you?!"
Allen watched as Loki coughed blood while someone wrested the scepter from his hand.
"Me?" The person replied calmly, as if not killing a god, "I am... inevitable."
