Ch. 43: The Tree of Might

"I want to watch you deal with this small problem. There's a certain divine plant that has made its way onto the mortal plane and spread its seeds. It's so powerful that it's destroying the mortal worlds below on a fairly rapid basis. I'm offering to allow you to keep whatever parts of the tree you harvest, so long as you deal with all the mortals being affected by it." The Grand Minister offered.

I immediately recognized the thing that he was talking about, though I hadn't seen much of the movie about it, since it didn't follow canon. He was talking about the Tree of Might.

"You're telling me to destroy the Tree of Might?" I asked him. He laughed in the same annoying polite manner that Whis tended to, realizing that I already knew about the tree.

"So, you already know about it? The problem with the Tree, is that it can suck up an entire planet's energy and grant it to a specific individual. It was originally created for higher gods to use on planets brimming with divine energies, but a seedling fell into the mortal plane a while ago and grew. Now, a group of mortals are using its fruits to take over certain parts of Universe 7." The Grand Minister told me.

I scoffed "I already know that. I'm wondering why you're bothering to deal with it at all. The Tree of Might doesn't have enough power to affect the universe's balance in the same way as a divine entity. Isn't that a bit below your pay grade?" The Grand Minister didn't get involved in anything concerning the mortals of each universe. His only duty was to ensure that the greater balance remained.

Even if a Kai/Destroyer pair was killed, he and the Grand Zeno wouldn't lift a finger unless something was happening to the multiverse itself. I was surprised that he'd even cared enough to know about the Tree of Might at all.

"As I explained before, it's a test for you."

"What kind of stupid test is that?" I asked bluntly. As far as I remembered, the person using the Tree's fruits to get stronger was a Saiyan named Turles. It was a fact that as of right now, Turles's power level was less than 30,000. That weak amount of power was less than what a Grand Kai would normally wield, much less a Supreme Kai who was allowed to actually interfere with the universe to some degree without getting special permissions for it. If Turles made any notable trouble, both him and the Tree would simply be wiped from existence no matter how much the Tree strengthened him.

"The test has nothing to do with the power you wield. You've already proven that you're stronger than me. The only way to get rid of you would be to have the Grand Zeno himself do it, and heaven knows if he'd be capable of controlling his power enough to destroy just your world, so it's currently not worth the risk. That may change, but it doesn't matter right now. The test is centered around what you do with the Tree. I just want to see what kind of goals you have." Grand Minister explained to me.

"I don't need the Tree of Might to create fruits that enhance battle power, Grand Minister. The Tree's pretty much useless to me." I told him, though he'd already probably figured that out. There were fruits that'd developed on the Core that enhanced battle power as well, grown by our energy manipulation techniques. In fact, I'd had Shay give one to my dad in order to raise his strength before his fight with Raditz back in hell.

"True. It seems that my trip here was wasted... But it's still yours, if you want to bother with it. Perhaps you can use it to enhance the levels of the mortal worlds that you've created there." The Grand Minister talked about the Saiba-Worlds that we were still observing.

My power had already long surpassed being confined to a single planet like Earth, so my plan for after everyone that I knew died and my martial arts school on Earth was firmly established so that they didn't need my protection, was to spend my days on the Core, watching as my Saiba-Races evolved in separate directions. Maybe if I used the Tree to speed that along, the Saiba-Races would grow in more interesting ways as the years passed by.

With that in mind, I sent a group of three girls over to deal with the Tree, as I ensured that the Grand Minister completely left the Core, without leaving any of his essence behind to spy on me with. Luckily for me, he wasn't that stupid, and he was more than enough of an expert to know how to use a god's powered-up version of Instant Transmission.

...

"Wh-who are you!?" Turles yelled in frustration. A group of three young girls had just shown up randomly on the planet that he had been cultivating the latest Tree of Might seed on. It'd only been a day or so since the Tree sprouted, but they'd already found him. He didn't understand how! Normally, any races native to the worlds in which the Tree sprouted would be weak enough that he and his team would be more than enough to deal with them, but these girls were obviously prepared for him. Their power completely surpassed him, making him feel like a child looking up at Frieza. Maybe... the gap was even bigger. They destroyed his team in an instant, as if crushing a bug, before ignoring him to harvest his precious Tree's fruits. He'd originally expected the Tree to need a few more days before it would fully mature, but the moment that the girls got near it, it almost instantly started popping off fruits, it growth speeding up beyond anything he'd ever seen, even on the stronger worlds he'd cultivated it on.

Turles had attempted to fight the girls by stealing one of the fruits that the tree was spawning and eating it, but the girl had swiped it back, saying something along the lines of "You don't get to steal from Mistress!" before going back to harvesting fruits. Once the tree stopped bearing fruits, the girls casually destroyed the entire thing from the roots up while Turles just stood there, watching, powerless.

"Alright. Let's kill him and get back to Mistress with our haul!"

"YEAH!!!!"

Nobody would ever know why the girls didn't bother killing Turles before destroying the Tree... maybe it was to make him suffer? Maybe just because they didn't feel like it? Either way, at the end of the day, Turles was lucky, because the girls instantly destroyed him, not even allowing him to feel the pain of death. After that, they casually restored life to the planet that had been drained by the Tree, before disappearing into a rupture in space. Meanwhile, The Grand Minister, back at the Omni-King's palace, laughed in amusement.

"She'll be an interesting co-worker." He muttered to himself.

Shoutout to Hasan_Shopnil who gave me the idea for this chapter. I originally wanted to have the Grand Minister show up between the Saiyan arc and the Namek arc, but he didn't really have any reason to do so. He still doesn't have much reason, but Angels are incredibly freewheeling creatures by nature. This chapter actually lays the foundation for a few future events that I'd been unsure about.
