I Don't Like the Ritual

Demyan

Despite how Ethan looked, he was the gentlest soul I had ever met. He was the definition of the friendly giant and most times he knew how to shut his emotions so perfectly well that I never knew what he was really feeling in that exact moment.

Yet whenever he spoke of his passed Dad, he did not look himself anymore. It was like he retreated into an invisible shell and I almost saw a young boy who still had a terrible void he wanted to fill. I did not know how I would have lived knowing I had a father who passed before I got a chance to actually know and remember them.

What would life be like if I did not have Pa or Dad? How would I react when someone told me 'You have eyes just like your father' when I barely knew what his eyes looked like?
