I awoke on Friday morning to a text from Jill. “We need to talk. ASAP. Can you come by this morning?”
“I have to be at work in an hour or so… afraid not,” I responded, dismissing her.
“Andy, this is important. It’s about your mother.”
“Okay, but I need to make it quick.”
I text Thomas: “Had something pop up. You and Kendra okay covering things?”
“No prob,” was all that he said in response (such a man).
“Thank you. Should be good on produce for lunch. I’ll bring dinner items in later this afternoon,” I added.
Thomas sent me the thumbs-up emoji in response and I laughed out loud. He knew how much I hated that damn emoji.
I skipped my morning run and got ready for the day quickly. Still feeling lighter after my conversation with Owen. I was starting to like this new Andy. Maybe there is hope for me after all?
The receptionist’s desk sat empty. Jill obviously hadn’t been able to replace Kendra in a pinch.
I text Jill. “Here in the lobby.”
