When the sun rose the next day, half of the settlement was still sleeping. The other half was a bit more sluggish than usual. But they were still out and about, getting their chores and tasks done.
By the time Kerl woke up in his new bed, alongside his wife, it was late morning. He took in his surroundings and sighed, "So… that really happened. I'm… the chief?"
"Of course you are. We've all been waiting for you to take the position." Gillee crawled across the bed to rub her husband's back. "I'm proud of you. So, so proud of you… I'll always be here to support you. For whatever you need."
Kerl reached back to caress her face. "... Thank you, Gillee. That means the world to me."
All smiles, she pecked him on the lips and scooted off the bed. While getting dressed, she asked, "By the way, when is your next meeting with the saint?"
