Chapter 78. Bonney's hidden potential

"Captain, see, it was a bad idea to leave Wano after all, now we're lost at sea." Bonney complained as her pizza had ran out.

*SNORE*

"CAPTAIN CAPTAIN CAPTAIN!" Bonney got annoyed that Ace could sleep so peacefully when they were in such a critical situation.

Sure, they had food and water, sure, they had lots of food left. Sure, they weren't in danger of dying... BUT there was no pizza left, and the captain just slept like there's no problem?

"Huh" *yawn* Ace woke up as Bonney was punching his head.

"Hey Bonney, Oh right, how does your devil fruit work." Ace suddenly asked as he realised that she never explained.

"I can become old or young, and do the same for the person I thouch." She said, seemingly not interested in the topic.

"Hmm so what's your real age?" Ace asked.

Nami who was taking care of her orange tree, suddenly perked up, she had also been meaning to ask Bonney.

Was she an old lady that had seen the era of Gold Roger? Or was she just a teenager. Maybe she was about 22, as her age seemed to suggest.

The others at deck also perked up their ears, as they got interested in the topic.

Sometimes, it felt like she was a bit young, she would act on her emotions and not care about things that an adult normally does. Over all, she seemed very childish, but... when they took a look at their captain, Ace, they realise that no, in fact, she seems very mature.

As Demon Ace Pirates, they rarely pry on their nakama's personal business, unless they themselves brought it up.

"Huh, eh... I am 20?" Bonney said as her eyes turned away and she started sweating a bit.

"No, you're not, I can feel that you're using your devil fruit right now. " Ace said while pointing at her.

She suddenly turned about 30.

"Alright, this is my true look, I am an old hag." She said, but her words seemed to imply that a 30 year old women, in her perspective, an old hag. Which would imply that Bonney was much younger than they originally thought.

Even Urouge and Law turned their face towards Bonney, waiting for something interesting to be revealed

Ace gave her a look, that said 'do I look dumb'

And had Nami seen his face, she would have nodded yes!

"Erm, okay, the truth is... " Bonney said, turning into a very old lady, that seemed to be well over 150.

"I'm an old, ancient lady!" Bonney said.

But seing her crewmates looks she realised that they might've realised.

"Sigh, fine, I'm 9!" She said as she turned into a child.

"NANIII?! BUT YOU SEEM SO MATURE." Ace shouted in disbelief. Bonney nodded in confirmation, she agreed that she was mature.

"NO SHE DOESN'T" Law and Nami shouted angrily.

*Sigh* "but that explains a lot of stuff." Nami sighed as she turned her attention back to Bonney.

The others seemed to agree. Sure all of them were silly, but Bonney was childishly silly. There's a difference.

" Wait does that mean that you learnt Haki at 8 years old?" Jojo Asked in surprise.

"What's so impressive about that, I learnt it at 3." Ace said while poking his nose.

Ace started wondering if he should have left Bonney with Tama? Nah, Bonney is strong, he would've brought her even if she was a one year old, as long as she is strong enough.

"Captain, you're a freak of nature, we don't count you. Haki at 8 makes her one of the people with the most potential." Spikewards said. The other nodded.

"I don't actually know Haki." She admitted, making all if them look at her like she was silly. They had seen her use it many times.

"When I make myself older, I imagine that at that age, I can do it." She explained. But it seemed like she didn't quite understand the implications of what her devil fruit might be able to do, based on what she said.

Nami looked at Bonney in disbelief.

"It seems like you abilities have lots of potential." Ace said.

"Huh, in what way."

"Give yourself the abilities of mera Mera No Mi." Ace said.

"Huh?" Bonney didn't follow.

Jojo was looking on with lots of excitement, if Ace's idea worked, then Bonney would instantly be the most useful person in the world.

"Imagine a future where you ate the Mera Mera fruit."

"Huh, okay." She said with a nod as she closed her eyes to focus.

"Captain that's not possible, only one person can have a devil fruit ability at a time. Yennow said.

Ace ignored him.

Suddenly Bonney turned about 22 again, but this time she started turning into flames.

"WAHAHAH it seems to work." Ace laughed it off.

"WHY DIDN'T I KNOW THIS BEFORE??" Bonney excitedly shouted in happiness as she continued shooting flames up the sky.

She turned young again then 22 again, but this time she turned into a small dragon.

'ooh Kaidou's abilities?!"

Then she repeated this process with different types of fruits.

"It seems like her imagination is the limit of what she can do." Jojo said.

"Then it suits her well, a child's imagination is the best." Nami nodded.

"AHAHAHA Kid, let's fight!" Urouge shouted happily as Bonney had gotten stronger.

"Eh wait!" Bonney said as she suddenly turned into a child, then an adult again. But this time, she chose a weird ability. Her body turned into rubber. But this time she was panting heavily as if using her abilities in such a way exhausted her.

"What?! You've met Luffy before?" Ace suddenly asked. As he saw her use an identical abiltity.

"Who is that, oh right, your brother, no?" Bonney seemed confused, so did the others.

"That's his devil fruit abilities you copied." Ace said with confusion.

"Eh, no, I just tried being like the sun god Nika." She explained.

"Sun god Nika?" Ace questioned, and Bonney explaiend the story of Nika.

Ace frowned as he heard the story, and the others also noticed that strange atmosphere.

'I knew Luffy is supposedly Joyboy... But is there a connection between them and Nika as well?' Ace thought as he frowned.

"Captain what's wrong." Nami asked as she saw how confused he seemed.

"Luffy and this Nika seems very similar..." Ace admitted.

"Eh that's not possible, Nika is only an ancient story." Nami argued.

"It's not just a story and it's also propheciesed that in the future, Nika would reutrn." Bonney said, not liking Nami's words. Nika was her hero growing up, as her father had taught her the everything.

"Hold on, we've got visitors." Ace suddenly said as he stood up and looked towards the horizon.

Jojo stood beside his captain and and used his lightning abilities to hear far ahead to get some information on what Ace had felt with his Haki.

"It's the Whitebeard pirates." Jojo said.
